Just watched some Youtube, and yeah, no thanks.

Still, blows my mind that Ys IV has been incarnated four times over four different platforms, and each incarnation is unique.

In my opinion, yes, because Ys > Tales.

But Tales of Zestiria is still worth owning (I've got it on PS3).

If you've never beaten an Ys game before, go with this:

https://www.gog.com/game/ys_origin

Not only is it technically (plot wise) the first game in the series, it's also the best. If you don't enjoy it, Ys may not be the series for you. I bet you'll love it though.
I actually have that on Steam, but I've never gotten around to playing it. That just got bumped up on my queue.

So I'm juggling three RPGs right now (that was not a good decision, just fyi).

1. Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse
It's been sort of put on the backburner for a while with my Pokémon hype, but I'm going to be rekindling that fire this week. I'm hoping to have that game finished by this weekend.

2. Pokémon Moon
As I mentioned, this sort of monopolized my 3DS all of a sudden, but I'm nearing the end of the storyline, and I'm going to work on filling my Alola Pokedex sort of gradually here and there as I get the urge. It's definitely getting shelved for a while after I finish the main story (which will hopefully be tomorrow).

3. Ys Origin
This is actually my first Ys game, and I'm playing it thanks to Exhuminator's and Bone's strong recommendations. I'm glad to say that I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm roughly halfway through the game, and I'm hoping to finish this one this week as well.

First off forget Pokemon :? , you're already playing SMT which is Pokemon for grown ups. ;p (No offense but I really, really don't care for Pokemon.)

Secondly, finish Ys Origin! It's pretty quick to beat (if you only beat it with the first protagonist).

Then go ahead and finish up SMT: Apocalypse after that.

The thing to known about Ys? Ys is the best action-RPG series ever made. The old Ys games are still solid, the more recent ones (Ark - Oath - Origins) are awesome, and the modern Ys games (Seven - Celceta - VIII) are all very good. It's really hard to have a bad time with Ys. Just don't play any of the SNES/SFC releases and you'll always have a good time.

Ys Origin isn't too long. A single-character playthrough is like twelve hours.

btw if you are enjoying this one The Ark of Napishtim and The Oath in Felghana use the same engine and are decent in their own right.

You're getting into the TurboGrafx now? Get Ys Book I & II, Ys III, and Ys IV. This will run you around $200 or so (assuming you get the NA versions of Book I & II and III) but I know you're a high roller. GOD TIER GAMES. CAN'T FLEECE THE YS.

I've been trying to hold back on this, but I put an hour into Y's Origin a few months back and wasn't feeling it. So that's basically like all the Y's games and none of them did anything for me.

You all gonna hate me.

Secret of Mana ruined it all for me.

Fair enough as your opinion. And I've enjoyed some Mana games. But I think Ys shits all over Mana.

Speaking of Ys, I am still playing through Dawn of Ys on PCECD. I'm currently at the ice mountain part, where you save the kid from the ice demon near the town of Libra. It's a great game so far, though fairly hard compared to "modern" Ys. Mainly there's required grinding. Meanwhile the OST is freaking outstanding. I thought since Hudson developed this one that the OST would be bleh... but Falcom lent them the legendary Sound Team J.D.K. so no worries there.

Just listen to this one track:
The alternate FM version is great too:

Game is RAD ASS. All caps so you know it's true.

I was kinda waffling today on what handheld thing to jump to next now that I've jumped ship on Lord of Magna, and I keep forgetting that I scored that copy of Ys Books I & II for DS! I think I'm gonna hop on that bad-boy, because I love Action RPGs! I very thoroughly enjoyed the last one I played, Shining Force EXA, so I'm looking forward to it :)

Err, uh... I personally wouldn't recommend Ys I & II on DS. If you'd like to play them portably, I'd recommend this instead:

At least that version was actually developed by Falcom. (DS version was developed by Interchannel-Holon.)

There are so many different versions of the original Ys I & II, it can be hard to keep up with what's what. When I beat the original Ys, it was via the 1998 Ys Eternal PC version. I used an English patch to do so: http://www.ysutopia.net/index.php?ind=d ... iew&iden=3
