The man speaks the truth.

You're likely to get more accurate, factual and reasoned news from Buzzfeed, which should tell you something about how good the Daily Mail is.

It's only use is for wiping your arse on if you're out of toilet paper in a pinch.

Yeah, it always rubs me the wrong way when the government wants to spend a little money to help out those who are most in need.

Oh, wait, no it doesn't, it doesn't at all. You know since I don't just care about myself and a few bucks that might be pulled from my wallet.

Do you ever consider that perhaps you don't know everything about someone else's story? What landed them homeless in the first place or why they might not be able to afford to get on their feet? Maybe their families are a check away from being in the same boat.

Your sententious insufferable posts are getting really old. Maybe you could consider feigning superiority to everyone else in a less annoying way? I sure would appreciate it. Of course, all I can do is request. I'll go ahead and keep my cussing to a minimum if you stop belittling every person who doesn't have the same means as yourself. Deal?

Did you miss the quote that the family will get extra money to bring their relative back home? Not feeling superior, just pointing out what most families would and should already have done to take care of their own. Not small pocket change from tax revenue, but over a thousand dollars a month for a whole year per family! Just another example of what is wrong with a lot of the Government programs. The expected free handout from "big government" without the realization that others who work hard for their money have to pay extra taxes for this.

This is the World Falling Apart Thread for posting real world issues that anyone feels about; right or wrong based on perception. There should NEVER be personal attacks on other members as you just did bold faced above; THAT is not following the Forum Guidelines. I hope that my posts are never taken personally, apologies if they ever do. You don't like my views, post your Rebuttal as many do here; or just ignore the Thread.

I love the banter of this Thread with its politics, it brings out areas I learn from. Trump for better or worse certainly has brought more awareness in the political system to the public. The latest is Taiwan, love Trump for bringing awareness to the small Democratic country ignored by the U.S. and overshadowed by communist China who claims the land as their own. This will be an interesting case study of the other nearby island Hong Kong that was taken over by China.

The case of Taiwan is so much more complicated than that. And we don't ignore them at all. We are their main military supplier and training partner. Further, the Taiwanese themselves prefer their current ambiguous status to full independence, in part because it avoids further sparring with mainland China.

If by taken over you mean "returned to its rightful owner after it was claimed as part of some gunboat diplomacy during the Opium Wars".

Nope, I read that part. Maybe the "big government" is just trying to offer people who already work hard (yes, some of them do too. ) a hand up. I'm a little tired of you making personal attacks and looking down on anyone who might have had a rough shake in life. Especially when you take umbrage with someone showing them some compassion for once in their life.

Thanks for pointing out the thread title. I was expressing my views about your posts just like you express your views often, and in annoying fashion, about entire sections of the population. The fact I don't appreciate it is hardly a "personal attack". I don't know why you capitalized "THAT", but I'm also aware of the forum guidelines. In accordance with them I did not call you any degrading names, simply spoke about the nature of your demeaning posts. Not too fun to be on the receiving end of that finger pointing is it?

Great. Perhaps at some point this thread will incite some compassion and empathy to compete with your love of the almighty dollar. It's humorous to me that people still think that if you killed off social programs the government would take less of your money, or use it more wisely.

They take my hard earned dollars as well, as I see it that entitles me to an opinion the same as you. You requested I didn't cuss to offend your delicate sensibilities and I obliged, so I asked in return you would stop constantly degrading poor people. It seems like a reasonable request, just as reasonable as yours.

Also, the NYC housing idea sounds like a really good idea. I suspect that it is drastically less expensive to subsidize families assisting homeless relatives than it is to provide additional shelter. ($1800 per month doesn't rent much in NYC...). I could be wrong about this though.

Totally agree, rightful that British rule was rescinded. Before the transfer of power, I have been to Hong Kong several times over the years while in the Navy. Hong Kong really an open market back then with a mix of the old traditions and modern city with outstanding subway system. Waiting for a computer store in Kowloon to open watching a store keeper opening a basket of live snakes for the late morning lunch crowd, so much sights, sounds and smells to experience seeing the centuries old variety of cultures and the new. Singapore as well has such diversity. Though China now reclaimed Hong Kong, as far as I have read has retained most of the free market capitalist concept. A smart move by traditional communist China to retain that.

A wishful thought back then that Hong Kong became their own as in Taiwan. We do business "Made in Taiwan"; the tiny DEMOCRACY island nation with own elected officials overshadowed by huge communist region of China and Russia. Taiwan not officially communicated by the U.S., not even a member of the United Nations. Yet, we quietly sell billions in military to Taiwan. Trump thru that phone call with Taiwan has brought awareness to the world, but could this lead to complete sovereignty or another Vietnam? Not saying we should spread democracy, every country must run their own affairs without another country deciding what is right for their people.

I don't know anyone who didn't know about Taiwan who now does because of a call from/to Trump. AFAIK there was no awareness spread. Given his tweet history and denial of reality, I wouldn't want anyone to learn about world affairs from Trump anyway. It is a dangerous turn because it puts crosshairs on Taiwan and could result in military aggression from China against Taiwan.
