Why is Gamecube abbreviated as GCN?

Game - Cube - ...Nintendo? Shouldn't it be NGC?

I know I probably just noobed this forum into oblivion by asking this, but I'm still curious.

That's the way I looked at it. Though I'm not sure why it wasn't just abbreviated "GC". I mean, the Dreamcast isn't abbreviated "DCS" or "SDC", just "DC".

The PS1 being abbreviated "PSX" in places bugs me too. The PSX was a DVR with PS1 and PS2 capabilities.

Maybe to avoid confusion with Neo-Geo consoles. That's the only thing that I can come up with.

I think it really comes down to easier to read. GCN has a much better ring to it than NGC.

That was the reason given in Mexico's official Nintendo magazine, to avoid confusion with the "Neo Geo Color", even though it's "Neo Geo Pocket Color".

Yeah the PS1 vs PSX thing always bugged me too. I wish I had a PSX.

I too have wondered the GCN abbreviation for a while. I'll opt to just type out 'Gamecube' instead.
