My take is that a full build isn't really warranted yet - I'm using a 3770k, and haven't really run across anything that a newer one would make enough of a difference with to warrant the cost to upgrade (it would make the Oculus runtime shut up about it though).

What I would say to take a look at is if your GPU setup is still able to do what you'd like. Even a single GTX670 is still viable, of course, especially for 1080p or lower. However, at this point, they're getting to be maybe a notch above minimum requirements (Infinite Warfare specs a GTX660 or better for instance). SLI obviously puts you a bit ahead on things that support it and scale well, but that's not a guarantee.
Going to a mid/high range current card would probably net you a nice improvement, though it'd really depend on what you're wanting to run anyway.

Well I recently played through Dishonored 2 with some minor slowdowns at times, but nothing that seemed like more than the general results people were getting re: its optimization. Didn't have problems with DX: Mankind Divided. I just haven't been keeping on top of things and was trying to gauge if we've hit some technology breakpoints that would make a full rebuild worthwhile.

So whats the current midrange intel chip for gaming? I have a job that is about to pay off and since my new camera fell through, looking at cpus.

Is the i5-6600k still viable?

I should mention, Gaming is priority. I have a dual xeon build for video editing now.

i5 6600k is still the current midrange, but the 7th gen desktop chips (Kaby Lake) are due in Q1 2017. More just as a heads up, since they're supposed to be using the same socket type, and are only looking to be a minor improvement. A good deal on a 6th gen CPU still may be preferable.

The second one looks damn good. I would take that over the first, since it's got a SSD which I'd throw the OS on for instant booting basically. Not a lot of HDD space to me, but the case looks spacey so I'm assuming there's room for some more drives. 600w PSU should get the job done there. The 1070 sounds excellent, I'm happy with my 1060, but it really does sound like the 1070 is a nice step up from that and the RX480. 8 USB ports is hilarious.

So the price difference between those two to me looks like the difference in the GPU's and the additional SSD for the second one. I'd say go for it. Seems to be a great build and a manual build would probably run the same price. You should easily get 1080p/60FPS gaming out of that thing.

Good luck with Dishonored 2 though. But I have a friend with a 1070 that hasn't reported any problems. All the negative reviews I see on Steam mostly mention 1060's and 1080's being problematic. Maybe a 1070 makes it magically work. Biggest disaster of the year to me, even after the 1.2 patch it still runs like garbage for me and has severe audio stuttering. Guess I'll wait 6-12 months post release for the next Bethesda published game. This game seems so broken though and so poorly optimized in a Metro 2033 way, it almost feels like they're going to need a completely second "Special Edition / Remaster" kind of release to get something out that works. The first patch was 4.3GB... and still broken.

if you don't want to build one, that's a nice price for the specs, sure. I'm not crazy about these pre-builts where you don't know exact mobo, etc. But for the most part looks good.

I guess I'm turning into a snob myself after building my first PC haha. But to me, it was just really fun building it... Lego's for adults. Might be the fun some get out of it.

Those cases just look super ugly to me.

Building is so rewarding to me personally. And picking each part is so much fun.
