Re: Saturn 2D shmups that won't break the bank
Im not a big fan of horis but Darius Gaiden shows up for $7 at most shops I go to. disc only. And like the others said, it is a solid title for cheap.

Galactic Attack, Darius Gaiden, and In the Hunt are the only US-released shooters, I believe. I'm sick so I'm probably wrong.

wow guys 11 replies! i didnt expect any! cheers!
loads of the games still seem to want 30 of my fine english pounds, but layer section and darius gaiden are about 11/12 quid (about 20 bucks), so thats not too bad.
thanks again!!

Sonic Wings Special is worth a look.
Tons of playable ships and it's a decent though rather standard shooter.

Absolutely true.Flak Beard wrote:This topic makes me want to get a Saturn just for building a solid SHMUP library. Many of these games cost much more on the PSX.
The Salamander Deluxe Pack on the Saturn runs around 2000-3000yen. On the PS, I've seen it from anywhere between 4000-8000yen.
I often come across Sonic Wings Special, Darius Gaiden, Darius II, all of the Konomi Deluxe Packs (Parodius, Gradius, Salamander, Twinbee), Sexy Parodius, the other Parodius game (the one with the guy talking in the background), Donpachi, Layer Section and Macross when I'm looking for Saturn games for anywhere between 500yen and 3000yen. I even found a copy of Twinkle Star Sprites for just under 3000 once. These are all Japanese versions of course. Most other shooters I find are usually above that mark.
I did come across Radiant Silvergun for 8000yen once.
