The protagonist is a young male (aged 14) so that's the "lad" part. His name is Arc, but he's also seeking an ark. One definition of "arc" is; "the apparent path described above and below the horizon by a celestial body". Which has some metaphorical meaning, considering Arc's destiny has been foretold by forces beyond him, and start to come true as he goes through his adventure. While I thought the name was goofy at first, now that I'm playing it's actually a clever title after all.MrPopo wrote:So is he a lad named Arc, or is the game commanding you to Arc a lad? And if the latter, what does the verb "to arc" mean?

Re: RPG Progress Report
So it's a game about a lad named Arc. I'm guessing they felt commas weren't cool in big text.
Arc, the Lad.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I'm surprised the title wasn't changed when the game was localized. So bizarre to read in English.
These games are available individually on PSN, huh? That's cool. I dunno if I'd want to pony up the cash for that big PSX compilation.

I'm just assuming they were using arc as an adjective. Perhaps not correctly.MrPopo wrote:So it's a game about a lad named Arc. I'm guessing they felt commas weren't cool in big text.

Yep. It's all of $5.99: link I hopeBoneSnapDeez wrote:These games are available individually on PSN, huh?
Definitely worth that price. I've bought bad sushi for more than that.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: RPG Progress Report
I bought the compilation off of eBay back in the day. Love that Working Designs stuff.
You can safely skip Arc the Lad III. It's not bad, but there's almost no challenge whatsoever, and it's all quest/bounty-based. Not that there isn't significant character building during those missions (there is!), but it's just not as good as the other games in the series.

Must have been the change of director. Kou Satou was the principle director for Arc 1 & 2, but Akinoro Tomonaga took over for 3.Sarge wrote:You can safely skip Arc the Lad III

Re: RPG Progress Report
That and the graphical change wasn't to my liking either. Just looked ugly and the battles were slower if I remember right. Completely new characters and like Sarge said, the single only way to progress the story was to take up "bounties" and do jobs whenever you got to a new town. Even then, I don't recall what the main story was at all.

Ugly!
Worth a look, but I can't think of any positives. Didn't bother to play much beyond 10 hours or so.
I still need to check out the anime, I wonder how it is haha.

Chuggin' along in Breath of Fire. Just picked up Karn, the thief. He can pick locks and spot traps. No more fallin' in holes for this crew. Now it's time to backtrack and find treasure hidden behind locked doors.
By the way, anyone else planning on playing the sequel for TR next year? I'd like to know who nominated the game.

I'm planning on playing through the sequel. I don't believe I ever quite beat it back in the day; I know I got to the final dungeon and unlocked the last shaman, but I don't recall beating the final boss.
Is this your first time through Breath of Fire? Because if it is, keep an eye on Karn; he's going to become one of your best party members.

Re: RPG Progress Report
That's yet another game I need to go back and pick up. I remember getting it on GBA back in the days when gamestop had the loose carts in a glass case by the registers and remember enjoying it. I still have no clue what the heck happened to it, I don't recall selling it or anything.
ToCS - screwed myself with saves and wrong weapons so I restarted and I've worked my butt off grinding. Hopefully going to be level 20 or higher before I hit the dogs again. It was embarassing how quickly they took me out before at 18/19 across the board even with buffs. Some of it may have been due to equipment which i'm working on and trying to get everyone up to what's available(including the U-material upgrades). Hopefully beat that section this weekend once my english and music papers are done...
