Who else gets made fun of for being a video game geek?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

HEY!! is it just me or did he just claim that we all smell like dorittos, sunkist, nor have we taken a shower in 4 days.......
...........I haven't.

I cop a little crap from the people I work with, but fuck them. They remain adamant that thier choices of pastime are a better than mine. Exciting things like sitting beside a body of water for several hours with a fishing rod bored out of thier skull waiting for a smelly fish to bite a piece of bait is soooo much fun. Please,I'd rather read a book and then go to fucking restaurant with friends and have a civilized conversation about something other than the evil ref in the latest football game.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Along those same lines though it just pisses me off when my co-workers at GameStop look at me like I'm a self absorbed jackass when I buy retro games off of customers who come in trying to sell their stuff or when I buy retro compilations, because apparently they all know what progress means and I'm some brain dead analog stone age caveman.
Aw $hit man. The SNES shoving was justified.

I've been a Sega gamer since I got my Master System and Alex Kidd... and through the years have had to defend myself against "better systems and better companies" like nintendo, micro$oft and sony"/ I think the most was early in high school when Dreamcast was shut down and Sega went to 3rd Party, so many numbnuts saying Sega went bankrupt and saying how Nintendo's revolution and DS beats out everything Sega EVER released. F U.

I love all games and collect across all genres, including PC... but love the Sega systems the best. I also am into vinyls, lots of classic rock/ electronica, Graphic Design & Photography, and enjoy it all along with life. Being ridiculed for being a gamer or a fan/collector of "ancient mediums" was a norm, but ever since college and working at my local Play N Trade, I actually can talk to people about the relevance of things that are just pure and simple, 'Good'. You know what they say about good games; they age like wine, even though some people don't.
Got: Atari 2600, Atari 7800Pro, Commodore 64, Odyssey 2, Sega Master System, NES, Genesis Models 1-3, Nomad, Game Gear, Sega CD Model 1, Sega 32x, SuperNES, GameBoys, GameBoy Pocket, GBC, Sega Saturn Model 2, GBA, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2 Slim, Nintendo DS Lite, Xbox 360, Gamecube, PS3 Slim

All I can do is try to understand and accept how getting wasted and puking is more fun for some kinds of people than games are.
The two aren't incompatible you know. :)

I can't say I've felt any persecution over my video game preferences. Most people I talk to had a NES back in the day and remember it fondly. Now getting someone to come over and play Toejam & Earl or River City Ransom, that's a little difficult.

Alright then tell me what makes me such an asshole for being pissed if someone blows up one of your favorite gaming machines.

That and don't automatically assume that I'm some nintendo fanboy Sega has and always will be my favorite game/console company, but it only takes about 20 min. to find a working Genesis in the wild; you try finding a working SNES in the wild for a fair price and then just watch what took you a few weeks to find get blown the fuck up.

Next time don't just assume that I'm a retarded fanboy just because you hold a grudge from a console war that ended 15 yrs. ago. And be grateful you even had what you did you asshole because you're not the 17 yr. old that had nothing but an NES with 6 games from when he was born until he was 11 in 2003 (Who's mom then found appropriate to buy a just obsoleted N64). The first time I saw a Genesis it was already 99' but that doen't mean I didn't nearly shit my pants from how nice the graphics were (To me at least). From then on I've had an obsession with anything Sega.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I never really had an issue with being made fun when it comes to gaming, but at the same time I never wore any gaming related clothing and I'm not especially vocal about it except when around my other gamer friends. My wife likes that I'm into the hobby and all my friends play stuff most of the time (especially JRPGs).

I guess I've been fortunate when it comes to this. I've never been one for a large group of friends, and I'll easily write off anyone who thinks games are for "geeks". You have to be one huge ignorant asshole these days to have such a narrow view. So I've kept a small group of good friends since high school and we'll probably all be into the same stuff years from now. I've seen gaming associated with lack of social activity, but I'm always out on Saturday nights at least. Maybe not puking in a corner somewhere or at a club, but we'll hit up an hour of Street Fighter IV and then go to the pub for a couple beers.

Mozgus, it really makes me sad to hear people would tease you about wearing a Goku shirt. My best friend had a couple DBZ shirts in high school and he was on the football team! Guess it just depends on where you live.

Yeah well, I had no trouble intimidating a couple of guys who were on the football team, after they tried to mess with me, so it all evened out.

I did have a couple run-ins with jocks at my first high school. They would give us major shit about playing MTG at lunch. Luckily we were able to chill in the ROTC room where everyone was cool with it.

Which reminds me why I love this so much...

one time I had a teacher in HS that said "video games were a waste of time" and he was directing it towards me and I was pissed.I think a lot of people don't understand the point of playing and collecting games and think its some kind of kids hobby.I am proud to be a gamer,a retro gamer for that note, and I don't care if people that don't get it.I don't get made fun of because a lot of people like to play video games and its not like it use to be a gamer now is not really as geeky as before, hell almost everyone plays video games now days.I do own a Sonic t shirt I wear once in a while.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

The same teacher in 5th grade that had told me games were a waste back then is now a Gran Turismo and Need for Speed fanatic haha. Games are changing though, its now accepted by every group and loved by more. Its both good and bad in my honest opinion. Id rather the jocks and frat boys keep there heads back in the booze rather than online with me in Counter Strike but the nice thing is they always play terrorist so I can just blast the hell out of them and get in return a warm fuzzy feeling that allows me to ignore there voices. So nice :D
