Yeah I would never suggest paying the reseller price for this. For those that needed it as a collector already procured it through legwork and those that casually want it, should just wait for restocks. I think the hype will die down for sure, but they need to work fast to hit that christmas season. I think that the closer we get, the larger the numbers will be.

This thing just reminds me so much of the gameboy micro launch. Definitely just a treat for fans and will be a very short run.

I'm still debating whether or not to try to pick one of these things up. I mean, I've got most of the games, but it would be convenient to put one in another room. I'm sure the prices will drop back down once some of the hype dies. Maybe by then I'll have made up my mind.

The only reason I might get one is to take to family gatherings and stuff, relive playing NES with the cousins back in the day without having to haul the real games and system. My interest isn't strong enough to go out of the way for it though.

You know I wonder...this laptop of mine has a HDMI jack on the back so you can broadcast out to a TV. Would there be a way that could be a both ways plug? It would be kind of dumb but just interesting at least to toss it into the mix if it would broadcast to my 17" panel as cord length would be no issue at a desk. Truly useless with emulators and more ROMS but would still be interesting.

I'm fairly sure the HDMI port on laptops is for output only, I'm afraid.

I'll tell you one cool thing about the NES Mini though. You can just plug the USB power lead into the TV and power it that way. I personally find that very convenient.

That's cool I hadn't thought of that as the USB port on tvs I figured weren't that good as I know the chromecast we have around here somewhere isn't a fan of that and had to power it from the wall.

That tear down is nice at least of the box contents, not a big fan of unboxings. I'd love to see the guts and that's where this went! It would be interesting to see someone more on a technical level (like a Ben Heck wannabe) start figuring out what each of those chips are and the details about them.

I have to admit I forgot about the power situation, jerks didn't include a AC adapter, just like with the 3DS which is so insanely cheap of them. I feel bad for anyone trying to use it who doesn't have a matching voltage/amperage usb to AC adapter plug.

I'm just curious to know if that USB connection allows firmware updates... it could be a backdoor.

Also I've read the NES Classic processor is more powerful than the Wii's. I don't know if that's accurate or not, but interesting if true.

I have read power only. Also, the chip is a MediaTek SoC. Pretty decent. Not sure there is a good way to compare it to the Wii, but I don't think it would be surprising at all to learn if is faster. Roughly equivalent to an upper medium smart phone from 2 or 3 years ago.
