Took down the first (?) Griffin in Witcher 3 and did a few other side missions.

Is there a certain point in this game where it really clicks or grabbed you?

As a player of the first and second game in the series I was all in from the beginning. There's some very dark things that happen in the game. Some messed up things.have you played any of the other two games?

I tried, I could not get into either of them.

But it was impossible to avoid hearing about 3 over the last year or so and some friends said I could probably just jump in here. So yeah I'm kind of going in blind and not really knowing much. I'd normally never skip entries like that, but the combat for the first game seemed awful to me, and yeah I was willing to give this one a shot at least.

I've actually managed to nearly run out of gold in Might & Magic 5. I think I'm going to have to farm the precious gems to create armor to sell, and maybe repeat a couple of times. It's not just that I can't pay to level up my Sorcerer (who got a ton of experience in Necropolis from reading the books); I actually don't have enough money to progress the main quest.

Turns out training gets REALLY expensive at high levels. I had 3 million gold and managed to blow it all.

I agree about the first one. You're really not missing too much skipping the first game. I think you were able to fill in some key choices made in the second game during the section when you visit the castle the first time you visit it.

The long and short of it is you're fine jumping into the third. Many have and you won't lose anything important at all.

When did PC/console WRPGs begin to be "co-developed" rather than ported? Did this not begin until the 7th gen with games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim?
I feel like a lot of games I have before ps3 era are this way. Seriously, look at tak on gcn vs gba it's a completely different game. I'm not sure the way they did it that it worked on gba but i could be wrong since i never bothered to pick up the portable copies of so many games...

Edit: Tales of Phantasia - made it through the castle now trying to get through this weird hell-like dungeon(no other way to describe it)

Downloaded the original Suikoden for my PSvita TV and I am surprisingly hooked. Considering that an RPG has not been able to really get my attention for quite a while now, I am not sure why this bare-bones title is working for me but it is. It's my first dance with Suikoden series, too.

Really liking a few things in particular: 6 character parties, the graphics (even though they are almost 16 bit on an emulated 32 bit platform), and the music is really good.

I also like the magic system a lot - it really makes me think hard about when to use my spells or save them.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

The original Suikoden is a legit classic, no fluff, just pure gameplay and great battles. But take your time enjoying it. It's a short 20 hour romp on average.

The first Suikoden is super great. One of my favourite RPGs. One thing I really like about it (in addition to the battles and music), is that I barely had to grind at all. I don't like excessive grinding so that's a major plus for me. And like Exhum said, it's not long at all. My save says I took about 25hrs, but I may of taken a bit longer than that since I did some gambling haha.

I started up Tyranny; Obsidian's latest game that's built on the engine they used for Pillars of Eternity. The twist in this game is that you are employed as a sort of troubleshooter for the resident evil overlord who just finished conquering the continent (the final step of character customization is to choose the actions you did during the final conquest). I've only just started; I've done the introductory battle and have just kicked off the main quest for this act. Character advancement seems to draw some from Bethesda's titles; you have base stats and skill stats, skill stats are increased by using them, and leveling up a skill seems to give you experience. Once you get enough experience you go up a level which lets you put a point in a base stat and put a point in one of several talent trees. Combat is pretty standard Real Time With Pause. It seems like the general combat system is lifted from PoE with the notion of deflection to reduce the severity of blows (crit to hit, hit to graze, graze to miss) and armor to reduce the damage of a blow, with a variety of armor types for the various blows. Abilities are cooldown based; there's no mana meter of any kind (which fits in well with the adaptive skill leveling). And then there's a spell creation system. You learn a base spell type (electric, fire, heal, etc) and a basic mode (on touch, targeted ranged, cone, etc) and then can apply accents (increased damage, increased length of effect, increased range, etc). But each accent increases the Lore requirement to use the spell. It's sort of a compromise between the fixed spells of most D&D inspired games and the open ended spell creator of Bethesda games that tend to be both painful to use fairly and easy to break in half.
