Well scratch some of my earlier progress....played for a solid 3-4 hours of ToCS and forgot rule one at least of modern games: save and save often! Lost that much progress when I straight out lost to some beasts since there was no way with some mistakes I made that i was going to win. Trying to grind for weapons now...pain in the butt too since I need the "upgrades" too from the looks of it and then some supplies. This game just seems super stingy with money/sepith masses....

Arc the Lad
I'm very much enjoying this old assed SRPG. But last night I threw away an hour and a half of progress. I was spelunking in the Araratos' dungeon, the one with 50 floors of increasing danger and treasure. I made it to floor 35, and had gained many levels and found some great gear. But then I was overwhelmed by demon-dragons and died miserably. I wanted to leave the dungeon but didn't know how, and blam GAME OVER, all progress lost. It felt like I was playing a roguelike.

So I looked it up in a FAQ, how to escape. And then I realized what an idiot I had been. Every time you go to another floor, you normally seek the downstairs portal to the next floor. But what I had forgotten about, was the fact there's an UPSTAIRS portal also. Meaning you can actually work your way back up, just as you can go down. Because I am so used to playing roguelikes with random floors that don't include an upstairs portal, I guess I subconsciously ignored it. Yeah, mega major derp on my part.

Great game so far though, for being almost 22 years old, Arc the Lad is a very fun SRPG still to this day. They don't make them like this anymore.

ToCS - made it back to the weekend before the second field study. I wanted to make sure I did grinding better this time around. Not to mention I was always behind on weapons and gear so that may have been part of the issue. Going into the second field study I should be around lvl 18 or higher since I plan on walking both ways in the school house this time around and may just visit the first floor for grinding reasons...

ToP - going to play some more of this, this afternoon hopefully. If I recall I was on my way to moria gallery but was exploring some more before I did so(which means i'm grinding as well). I wish i had a better patch for it though. The one on r9delta's mediafire has some glaring issues with dialog and some sentences that just don't make sense. I really hope it's possible to migrate saves to a new patch since there has to be a better one than this...

Breath of Fire

The game is moving along a bit faster than I remember. I hope to have it done in about two weeks total.

My party consists of Ryu (dragon man), Nina (cute bird girl), and Bo (furry). I just got the tablet from the zombie town and am now going to enter the floating tower.

Easy peasy so far. I had forgotten how overpowered the earthquake key (e.key) item is. And the game doesn't even tell you it's a weapon. The boss battles are pretty lackluster. They're just big fat HP tanks. Music is phenomenal.

Oh, and on a whim I downloaded Breath of Fire 6 last night. Trust me, it sucks.

I'm probably a good 10 hours into Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse now (so, knowing SMT, probably only a quarter of the way through game at most), and it's reaaaally good. I had forgotten how much I love the combat and exploration in SMT4. This game is a blast.

That's why they grin fearlessly!

When I played this back in 1998, I made it all the way to the very end of the game before I realized you could evolve your dragon form beyond the initial "pup" stage. :? I had no instruction manual or internet help... so, yeah. Made it more challenging at least.

Still having fun with Arc the Lad. Quality 90s game design.

So is he a lad named Arc, or is the game commanding you to Arc a lad? And if the latter, what does the verb "to arc" mean?
