No really, but seriously it's too short for even that. I did that exact same setup, in my spare bedroom on my small TV that's right next to the bed and it was ridiculous.

It's way shorter than any retro console controller wire. Shorter than the original NES, SNES, Sega, whatever.

Not that it's a huge issue, mind, as you point out that the extension cords are cheap enough. I'll pick one up sometime

Most likely, they just went with the standard cord length for Wiimote accessories. Makes them not absurdly long if you're plugging them into a Wiimote sitting near you/in your lap/whatever.

Does seem shortsighted though, but maybe that was the point. Give retailers a window to sell some massively high margin accessories.

I'll bite on the cynical end of things, it's Nintendo after all and they plan everything out. No doubt they want to peddle extension cords and did that so it wouldn't be a lap of cord on Wii type devices. I would not be shocked if the Nintendo online store started hucking the cables.

Yeah, I got the Atari 2600, Intellivision, and ColecoVision plug n plays for the unreleased and homebrew stuff. But this thing........ nah. Now if I didn't already have an NES: hell yes.

Yeah, I did wonder if it was so that people could use them with wiimotes for the Virtual Console, without the cords being abnormally long compared with other Wii controllers and accessories.

But still, it's weird when you just want to use it for its intended purpose - i.e. with the NES Classic Mini.

I've got to admit this is a really good find. I wish Nintendo would do uploads of all the other manuals. I'd love to eventually finish out my missing manuals. Some of the games in the NES era at least are a little difficult without consulting the manual from time to time...

I happened to go into the mall today to get my kid a good behavior treat, wandered into the gamestop near the preztel place. I brought up the NES Classic, curious if they'd get them. They said they had them, they sell tomorrow, and they have a lot. I said, yeah a lot for pre-order, and she said no, we weren't allowed to do in store pre-order so it is first come first served at 9-10am whenever the store opens up.

If it wasn't for my credit I'd drive down there and play a little work hookie.

For those wanting one, stalk your gamestop pre-opening and go for the counter if you think it will or may be an issue.

Yeah, I just "happen to" wander into the video game store all the time too.

A good move by Nintendo on the short cord and Wii compatibility. This allows versatility of hooking as a Wii Classic Controller without excess cord. Extension controller cord are inexpensive and if the NES Classic takes off there will be new 3rd party cables.

Oh yeah, I'll pick up two gamepads tomorrow. Amazon, Best Buy and Target has the consoles and gamepads locked from preorder. I know some stores that received the systems last week, but have to keep them off the floor until tomorrow. This is a good thing especially since it will be released BEFORE the dreaded Black Friday!

Congrats to Reprise on getting the console early thru mail order, good on you!

I'm hoping that there will be one left around lunch time when I can slip away from work and head to gamestop. 3ft does seem a little short for a controller cord but makes sense as an add on for the wiimotes. Oh well.

Are any of the extensions licensed by nintendo?
