RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
Morrowind has a pretty unique ecology to it; that alone makes it worth playing over the generic fantasy of Oblivion.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Morrowind might be the interesting one for me to retry, since I think last I tried to play it, it just didn't "click" - I was coming from playing Neverwinter Nights and such, and expecting a more linear experience.ElkinFencer10 wrote: Confession - the only Elder Scrolls game I've played is Skyrim. I have Morrowind and Oblivion, but I've never gotten around to playing either of them. I tried Oblivion once, but I got really bored really fast, and I keep meaning to go back and give it another try. Morrowind, however, I've never even tried despite the strong urges from several of my college and high school friends.
That said, I've attempted Oblivion and Skyrim multiple times each and just get bored fairly quickly. Fallout games I've gotten farther in, but still got bored with 4 and haven't yet revisited it. So, maybe they're just not my thing.
I should probably try the Witcher sequels though. I've stalled out on the first game multiple times, so trying to finish that first is just going to delay getting to the new ones
'course, like noise mentioned, if I could play my own character in them, that probably would help a lot too. Geralt or Witchers in general just seem...adolescent, I guess? I didn't find him particularly endearing in any case, maybe things improve in later games.
For actual progress... replaying Dark Souls II: SoTFS on PC goes well. Into the DLC in a fraction of the time from before, and have yet to summon help. Cleared Sunken King's mandatory bosses yesterday, haven't entered the other two, and otherwise I guess have the Darklurker areas to do (which seem to suck as a melee...as opposed to most other things).
I think the biggest problem with the game is the "expanded" stats that render fundamental actions like rolling less effective early on. I mean, quite a lot of the level design or enemy placement is still cheap for no good reason...but needing to level additional stats just so it doesn't feel (as) "off" seems to be a poor decision.
Re: RPG Progress Report
You might try using the Polish vocals for the Witcher games. You really get a sense of world-weary cynicism from Geralt in it, and it matches his actions perfectly.

I've been using PC Gamer's Top 100 list for a while now for inspiration on what to play next when I'm at a loss. So there's a good chance I'll get to Oblivion and Morrowind in the somewhat near future. And if I dare dabble in their Top 50 Free Games list, then Daggerfall could happen as well.

The first boss or the last one? Either way, you should finish it up.noiseredux wrote:Cave Story I got all the way to the boss and then gave up. Barkley: SUAJG makes me want a gaming PC more than any other game, and I am envious of your (wasted!) ability to play it.

Re: RPG Progress Report
as I was saying about Skyrim: I just finished the quest "The Throat Of The World," and it took me over an hour to get to my destination (which was re-visiting the Greybeards). However, a lot of stuff happened in that hour that I would have missed out on had I fast-traveled...
I killed a dragon named Vuljotnaak. Apparently he's one of the easier dragons in the game. But still... I killed a dragon without the help of a bigger party for once.
Speaking of which, Lydia died. Apparently that's a thing that can happen. I had no idea. I feel bad but I looted her for arrows.
I leveled up to 10.
I discovered a cave, killed a bunch of thieves and looted them for upgraded armor and sword. I've honestly not bought a single item in this game save for maybe some food early in the game.
Made that trek up to the Greybeards (again) which I actually really enjoy. There's a certain serenity to these "walking sim" sections of Skyrim for me.
I finally murdered that Frost Troll who lives on the Greybeards' mountain. The last time I was up there I just avoided him. This time I threw a bunch of Flame at him and he never even touched me.
...so like I was saying, to me a lot of my favorite things that happen in this game are the ones that occur between the point A and B of the quests.

Trails of Cold Steel - Still barely even getting started and it's obvious. I'm about 10 hours in and only on the field study. I've spent so much time walking around talking to people, and trying to figure out how to get on Alisa's good side. Don't know why but I'm drawn to her. This game is really good at these character interactions and development. Though I swear some of these characters feel ripped from several Anime I've watched.
Tales of Phantasia - this one is slightly on pause on until I manage to track down my vita to play ToCS on there. I just haven't made it by my dad's yet to grab it...
Edit: Man ToCS really knows how to kick you in the feels thing kinda bring it up with a laugh or two. This game is getting pretty deep quick now, on day two of my first field study now...
