I have no idea, actually. You could jack up the number of lives, though. Picking up enough money bags will keep you rolling in continues, so they're very nearly infinite if played that way. I'm not actually sure what the differences in difficulty levels are, I stuck to Normal.

(EDIT: I do know that the extra life/continue thresholds are higher on the tougher difficulties.)

I stuck with the default normal, but I was curious about that.

Hmm, might be. I know there isn't much difference between boss battles, but random enemies tend to be a bit faster. It's not that much more difficult. I looked around and even the speed runners seem to indicate that there's not a massive difference in strategies between a Normal and Professional run.

I played through the first level on the beginner difficultly setting and didn't notice any difference. The manual doesn't explain what the difference is, just that the different difficulty settings exist.

On the normal difficulty, I made it to the third level. Really, once you get use to the flow of the game, it becomes a lot less difficult. After you play through the same spots many times, you get a method down that works every time. In that respect, it's exactly like Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. At least, that's how I attacked both of those games.

I think the main difference is the speed of the enemies, that might be literally the only thing though.

I might post a SGnG LP before the year is up.

It definitely affects how you handle the last fight. To be honest, on my "legit" run, I'd used the stage select to get back there, but I really needed to test the legit second loop. Turns out that the red/green demon's speed is also affected, which makes it much more risky when he goes with the flamethrower move. In some ways, though, it lets you hit more often while being evasive, because you can tag him while you're jumping away and he'll often absorb the full brunt of your blast.

The green guy is still easy once you know the trick, and the fact that he moves faster means less down time while in the safe spot. In a lot of ways, it makes things easier given the time constraints.

Surprised at your take on War of the Gems. I don't think you're completely off base, but I definitely can't rank it beneath Arcade's Revenge. I was not impressed by that game.

Personally, I love both Mutant Apocalypse and War of the Gems, but for different reasons. War of the Gems is much more beat-'em-up flavored, and it's also a bit easier as well, so I like to revisit it for something a little lower stress than Mutant Apocalypse.

Excellent vid, as always, though. :)

Ooph, yeah, I can see liking the others more, but Arcade's Revenge is a tough pill for me to swallow. I really don't like that game. It gives me flashbacks to X-Men on the NES for some reason.

Beyond that...it's a pretty fair assessment of War of the Gems. Mutant Apocalypse is just the better game all around, though I still like WotG because yes, smashing walls as the Hulk really does it for me.

The Infinity Gems are super cool, too. I love giving the smaller characters the Power stone, and annihilating enemies. Or the Speed gem on the Hulk. I still think Power ends up the best, though.
