Yep, that's how I manage the early ones as well. They jump right into your blade.BoneSnapDeez wrote:These guys aren't too bad in the rooms with all the blocks. The blocks can be cleared in a specific way so that Link can stand and slash the heads of the tossers without being at risk of damage himself. Thanks, NES Game Atlas!

Einhander (PS1)
The Goonies II (NES)

Perfect Dark (N64)
Prince of Persia (APPLE II)
Resident Evil (PS1)
Splinter Cell (Xbox)
SSX (PS2)
Star Wars: KOTOR (Xbox)
Vectorman (Genesis)
The Guardian Legend and Legacy of the Wizard are great. Get crackin' on that.
Reminds me: I've started looking into the Japan-only Famicom Metroidvania and side-scrolling action-RPG scene. TONS of games. Some look quite intriguing.

Oh, I thought of one - Blaster Master.
A friend bought it for me on virtual console as a birthday present years back, and despite me putting in some significant time with the game, I still haven't been able to get past the stage 5 boss (the giant enemy crab). Considering there's what, nine stages, I have a long way to go.

Never got to Dark Cloud 2 always got to the third or fourth area where the dungeon is a ship in the original and would end up moving on to other stuff.
Honestly the mimics used to scare the shit out of me when I was younger
.
Really need to go back and play through Dark Cloud as well as the Dot.Hack series on PS2. Still need to pick up the 4th installment of Dot.Hack though but dear lord it's pushing $100+ now
. Wish we would get a remaster or digital collection for that series and the G.U. Trilogy prices are freaking ridiculous for some of those.

Re: Games You Want to Finish But Never Did
Was happy to finally beat Zelda II myself last year. I did use the Wii U single save state though... the final dungeon is so insane. I think the maze design and traps of the later dungeons is what bugged me more than the actual difficulty. I was pretty good at the jump/duck stabbing mechanic that worked well on cheesing some enemies.
Quake 1 was another big one that I knocked out this year.
Jurassic Park on the SNES is one I used to play a lot growing up and owned, but I have never once beaten it. It's felt like unfinished business for the longest time. Definitely need to knock this one out. It has no save system and seems like a rather long game, so that's why I've never managed the willpower for it.
I've started both Parasite Eve 1 and 2, love the aesthetics and style, but for whatever reason I didn't beat either of them despite loving the classic RE formula. Hell I even beat Galerians which is as goofy as it gets. I'm not sure what it is, maybe the weird mesh of RPG mechanics that slows them down, or what. I want to get through them in full sometime and imagine they're not too long.
Suikoden 5, Lunar 1, Lunar 2, are some big ones I got really far in but didn't finish. And I'm not sure why. There's some other JRPG's like Arc the Lad 3 or Breath of Fire 3 that I never finished, but I don't know if I care with those and some others since I didn't really like them. I'll also throw in Odin Sphere here as well with others, I couldn't stand the backtracking and seed gimmick, but I do hear the HD version makes things way better.
Really feels like I've defeated most of my enemies by this point. Yeah I definitely have some backlog like everyone else and plenty of games I've started and haven't finished, but for things that have been over my head for years, the list has gotten pretty small by this point. Nowadays it's become moreso that there's some big series and installments I want to get through that I haven't touched.

Indeed, considering I played through it and completed it again just last month. My strategy for the final battle was a little different, cutter laser and using the 255 erasers I stockpiled when health/chips got low.prfsnl_gmr wrote:The Guardian Legend (NES)

Re: Games You Want to Finish But Never Did
I can't find any proof of this online now, but when Guardian Legend came out there was a commercial that said something like "you played Legend Of Zelda, now play Guardian Legend." And in my child-mind I believed that The Guardian LEGEND was LEGEND of Zelda 3. I loved the first 2 so much that I begged my parents for it and when I got it quickly found out that Link had not gone to space... this was not the third game in the series.
Re: Games You Want to Finish But Never Did
I was all about the Zeldas in grade school. I would obsess over magazine coverage and started many a fresh save vowing to get further (different friends, different copies of the game, until I finally got my own used copy). Zelda II was kind of a love/hate, on and off again game for me, at least those 1st few years. It eventually won me over though, so much that I purchased the GBA re-release as soon as it came out, just to replay it in portable form.
I think it a shame that there are so few Platform ARPG's to choose from.
Oh, just thought of a game never finished:
Star Tropics. That's a fun Zelda-ish clone. It got stupid hard for me that last bit though
But as the saying goes, it's about the journey, and I did enjoy my yo-yo rampage.
I will play it through again and beat it before attempting Zoda's Revenge though.

Re: Games You Want to Finish But Never Did
Pretty sure I beat StarTropics again earlier this year. Once you get past the controls, it's a wonderful game. They're not so much "bad" as "deliberate". They're also thankfully quite predictable.
