Yeah, I see this being like Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories in a way; it's a retelling of the story more than a remake of the game.

I also played around with Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary World Tour for a bit tonight. It's to be expected from a 20 year old game running on modern hardware, but it's so damn smooth and fluid. I had a fucking ball, man.

Shattered Memories is horrendous...

I didn't mean "Dracula X" compared to Rondo of Blood. I meant "Dracula X Chronicles" on PSP vs Rondo of Blood. It's a remake of Rondo but it also has the PCE original on it, albeit with translated dialogue. It also has SOTN as well.
Completely went over me. lol

Dracula X SNES still sucks!

Haven't they confirmed that the game-play is totally different and that even some plot points will be changed? I haven't been keeping the closest track of it. It does seem like much more than just a "remake" though.
Oh, yeah, the FFVII remake is going to be completely different. It also sounds like it might ape the style of the upcoming FFXV, instead of just being full action-RPG like Crisis Core. Dunno, though.

Super Castlevania IV is another good example of a re-imagining. It loosely follows the same plot as the original Castlevania, but has so many new elements that you really can't call it a "remake" in my mind.

As for the discussion about Dracula X on SNES, I think it's pretty good, but it's definitely not balanced very well. It ain't Rondo, sure, but it's still a competent (and sometimes maddeningly infuriating) game.

(I also think Rondo is a bit overrated, but what do I know? ;))

I've also heard generally positive things on it. I read about it quite a bit back when it came out. One of the few horror games I'd like to buy to actually play.

On the opposite of remakes that lose something:
I used to think that the Sega Master System version of Double Dragon was kind of a bleh port. Then I played the original arcade game and found that it was an excellent port of a bleh game.

It's a good prequel to Until Dawn.

Silent Hill it is not.
