I can't look at those forums. They enfuriate me to no end. Lots of trolling complaining and absolute nonsense. We are talking intentionally lying about gameplay and a heightened sense of self entitlement. I can not stand it!

You should read the ones for Payday 2 or Killing Floor 2 sometime. If ever you feel the need to roll your eyes...just saying.

I basically didn't play Halo 5 for a while after picking up the system and game due to it wanting a patch every other time I tried to start it.

I don't play my Xbox One much in general because of that. Since July, I've turned on my Xbox One a whole one time without either the game I wanted to play or the system itself needed an update. Granted, I've only played through a two or three Xbox One games since July, but still. It's always a damn update for SOMETHING, even the I play the same game every day or a week straight.

Realistically I know that it's just bad luck, but still, you can't shake that feeling, brah.

I agree. Steam forums are horrendous for the most part. Most reviews are pretty lame too.

Regardless of the reason, if/when I do sit down to play one of the relative few Xbox One games I have, and then get faced with a 30+ minute download/install, it...pretty much means I'm gonna go do something else instead.

I think part of it is that I do only have a handful of games for the system, so I have it shut down entirely instead of stay in standby/Instant-On mode. If I did that, maybe it'd have games patched and ready to go. Or not, I dunno. Most MS product update methods seem poorly thought out at times.

Like, Metal Slug came out in 1996. It "feels" older to me - 1993 or so.

The first King's Field game was released before Chrono Trigger.

The final retail Atari 2600 games were released in 1990. This is the same year the TurboGrafx CD hit shelves.

I pretty vividly remember when Metal Slug came out, and how the Neo Geo hardware was considered long in the tooth at that point; that one doesn't surprise me.

The first King's Field doesn't, either, given how late it was in the SNES lifecycle, and how Donkey Kong Country was meant to stave off the PlayStation/Saturn until they could get out the N64.

The last official 2600 game in 1990, though? That's legitimately crazy. I can totally see it, but it's still one of those surprising factoids, kind of like how the Master System kept going in Brazil for like forever... and apparently is still going!

Is that horribly long install time a thing that all PS4 and Xbone physical games have? That's been one of my biggest reservations about adopting a PS4, because it's a real problem that I really don't see getting any better :/

I'm really just crossing my fingers that the Switch doesn't have this problem, although considering that that uses cards instead of Blu-rays, there's actually a glimmer of hope for that.

The Xbox One has legitimately offensive install times. They're legit like half an hour to install a game fully, and while it usually lets you launch the game at 30% or so, they often pull the shit that Gears of War 4 did where it lets you launch the game but won't let you actually do anything other than look at various progress markers until EVERYTHING installs (like 30 or 40 minutes later).

The PS4, on the other hand, does the bare-bones necessary installs first (usually within 30 seconds, 60 tops from my experience) and then lets you play while it installs in the background (the massive patches are an extra hassle, but that's the same on Xbox One). PS4 hands down takes the trophy for less infuriating installs. The way the system does is better than how the PS3 did it and not even in the same league as the torture of the Xbox One's install times.

Ohhhkay. That makes me a lot less trepidatious on getting a PS4 eventually. It's just that my friend had to wait 3-4 hours for Fallout 4 to finish installing to actually play it the other day, and I thought that was ridiculous. Was worried it was like that for everything.

What about not feeling like something is as old as it is? People were celebrating the PS2's 16th birthday the other day. WTF was all I could think haha.

when the PS2 came out I was fresh out of high school and the idea of owning a DVD player was a huge novelty. It feels like more than 20 years ago to me.
