It has begun.

On the way home from kindergarten open house so Im guessing 7-8pm here, its a total switch up.

Everywhere there are ghastly, quite a few haunters, and I caught a low CP yet veryred *and rated crap* Gengar. Also lots of drowsee and a shadowed hypno as I never seen one before, also a large supply of marowak, cubone and plenty of meowth as well. Not be surprised if a persian popped up due to that.

Its gone all spooky with the ghost, bone, and cat based stuff.

By the way candy, the charmander *3km* reduces to a .75km walk for candy. Time to rackup some serious walk time however possibe. Pisses me off they GPS instead of pedometer it as Id so go walk on the treadmill for the next few hours.

I saw it start at around 7:30 with that cool new loading screen they have for the event!

Tonight marked the first time my Go Plus flashed *yellow* (for new Pokémon!) and I thought it was white at first. Turned out to be a sub-100 Gengar.

Yes, there is also a marked increase in Cubone/Marowak because of the story in Gen 3 featuring the ghost of a Marowak in Lavender Town, according to the Reddits I frequent. I couldn't explain the Meowth's extra presence, however. But boy howdy, there sure are lots of Gastly and its evolved forms out. I hope you all like to get your ghost hunting on!

I also got 5km eggs and a 10km egg ready for the double candy from hatches, this might be your best time to get some extra incubators!

This site has a good strategy on which Pokémon to make your buddies for this event. I'm sticking with Charmander for now, then switch to Squirtle, Jigglypuff and hopefully Snorlax.

In other unrelated news -- flagpole gym level *8*! The highest I've ever seen it, and it's VALOR'S! I'm still getting 60 coins a day!

Let's hear all the great stories this upcoming week!

EDIT: I thought buddy candies were doubled today because bulbasaur found 2 candies at once. Now I realise it was probably because he was already at over 2km walked, and seeing as he only need 0.75 to get a candy right now it converted them right away.

I'm struggling to decide if I want to walk a bunch of stuff I'm closer to and get like 8 new pokemon in this time, or if I want to just walk with something like omanyte or dratini or charmander and grind out one of the pokémon I'm a really long way from completing.

Im in the same spot as I have dratinis and charmanders 2nd form at 1-10 candy out of 100 which sucks. But at .75km s 3km a candy I can probably clear one of them.

That said all my other 3km types or even the 1km gyardos and especially the clefairy would be down to .25km to snap up a candy which is very fast. I have at least a half dozen 3km types where I need 10-25 more candy to evolve and this could clear some of the list out.

So far its on charmeleon today since he was at 6 and is already up to 10 due to the knock off just from a little walking last evening at that kids event. I figure a few walks around the block would double or triple that in short order. I can far easier stomach doing 15 candies the slow way instead of 90.

Though I think the best would be for anyone with a wicked magikarp thats perfect (I have one I believe a number off it) going 100km instead of 400km to get that nasty beast gyardos would be a priority. A 300km walk savings.

That said, walking for 100 dratini candies takes 125km instead of 500km - a 375km saving. The 5 km pokemon are definitely gain the biggest benefit from this!

Yeah, I'm sticking with my Dratini. I may not get all the candies needed to fully evolve it, but I'll surely knock a big chunk off what I have left to go.

In other news, in less than 24 hours after the event began I managed to acquire over 100 Gastly candies  I shall use them to evolve my top Haunter into a top Gengar, assuming I don't run into a better Gastly/Haunter some time later this week.

So far, I haven't run into nearly as many Drowzee as I as expecting, and I've only encountered one Zubat. Did managed to get a few more Cubone's while I was at the store, which was quite nice as they never show up around here, and while I was out I also picked up a new...

Marowak

I've also hatched five eggs since the event started: three 2k, 1 5k, and 1 10k. Got a Charmander, two Jigglypuff, Mankey and Kabuto. With the double candy benefit going on, that means I've now got enough candy to evolve Charmander, Jigglypuff and Kabuto (64 candies! And he's 'A Wonder!' Yes!) I've currently got 4 Gym Defenders, and if that holds out for tomorrow I'll be able to buy another incubator for the weekend, so I can take advantage of the extra goodies they're giving out.

So far, so good.

NOTE: I think the reason Meowth is more common right now is simply because it's a cat. I know it's not a black cat, but it's the closest thing they've got, so I think thats why there's more of it right now.

After training the flagpole gym to Level 9 (and someone dropping in a new Pokémon there hours later), I loaded up on Gastly and I'm now very close to get this 773CP Haunter to a Gengar.

I have 2 10km eggs and 7 5km eggs in incubators. I expect the 5kms to go tomorrow, and I'm going to try an Incense to see if I can get more of these bats and the Drowzee family out of hiding.

It's also a good time to get out some of the commons to transfer to get 2 candy each.

I managed to get enough buddy candies for an Ivysaur, then I swapped it out for Ponyta so I can go for rapidash next.

I also hatched a Diglett, so I now have a Dugtrio to boot.

122 pokémon caught now!

Edit: I also hatched an Abra for 38 candies, putting me a good third of the way to Alakazam. Here's hoping I get a few more lucky hatches.

Not able to be very active in Go due to the new little one, but I'm still collecting my daily 10 coins from the local library. Did catch my first Gengar yesterday, and I have a Haunter I'm still waiting on coins for to be able to evolve into a Gengar worth having on the roster.

Im burning through pokeballs like crazy. The amount of ghosts, meowth, cubones and drowzee popping up is insane. 2 days into it and I can already make a persian and a gengar if I want. At this rate Im kind of dumping the trash but keeping the highest quality one I randomly pop into and once the event has had it I will do some evolving to maximize my best chance at something useful.

Makes you wonder...Christmas and New Years. Japanese have no care for thanksgiving and easter so Id guess those wont do it unless they appease to the locals on a global scale.
