Less than 2 hours

I forgot to mention that, and yeah that's the patch I used, thanks

Excellent vid, drunk.

And your Drill Dozer video has inspired me to play the game again. I picked it up years ago, tested it, said "hey that was cool!", and haven't touched it since...
Thanks Bone, and get on Drill Dozer, it's great!

That's actually very encouraging for me.

So what's the playthrough like in that case? Passwords, battery backup? Or do you have to play from start to finish in one sitting?

You know, I'm such a dingus that I didn't even mention that or notice it when playing because I'm so used to using save states. If you die it saves automatically nearby, but if you turn the console off it erases. So it's treated as a one-playthrough kind of a thing

Ah, good to know. In that case, I might actually opt to use an emulator for my first playthrough so I can utilize save states.

I've been wanting to try out a Ghouls 'n Ghosts game for a while, but I'm always put off by how hard every one says it is. I'm use to NES Castlevania hard, and I found Ninja Gaiden to be fun. By comparison to those games, will I have that hard of a time with any of the Ghouls 'n Ghosts?

You'd have an easier time with GnG than those games, IMO

I just tried Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the first time. It's not that hard. Getting a feel for the controls was the hardest part for me, but once I started to get used to it I was progressing at a slightly faster rate. It takes the same kind of trial, error / memorization that Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden does.

I made it to the raft part on the second level. I used one continue and a few lives to get that far. Not bad, considering this was my first time playing the game. Certainly not as impossibly hard as some people make it out to be.

The only thing that's really hard is the lack of a password system to continue on a later level. Looks like there's a level select "cheat" but you need two controller to activate it.

edit: I found a Game Genie code that'll unlock the level select in the options without needing a second controller. It says you just need to hightlight exit in option mode, hold L and press Start. Since I'll be playing on a flash cart anyway, I'll use this in lieu of a password system. Some people call that cheating, I call it being an adult.

Pick-up-and-die kind of games (I prefer to say that rather than trial-and-error) are always only tough at first, it's just pattern recognition. Once you know what to expect and how the timing works, it's much easier.
