I'm not for sure why there is so much concern on the resolution of the tablet. 720p looks really good on smaller TVs because you don't have to stretch the pixels. I've seen 32" and below 720p vs. 1080p models and they look very similar. If the tablet was 40" or above then I would worried

I understand why you would want some sort of extra processing in the dock to get 1080p. The Bigger the screen the more pixels you need to maintain good contrast and color reproduction, but the tablet is so small you don't really need it put out 1080p to look great. The tablet is the least of my worries at this point.

Yeah, at that screen size, 720p would be more than enough. The Vita is lower than that (544p), and looks great on a 5" screen. 720p on the Switch should be just fine, especially if it's only 6.2" on the screen.

Size isn't the only thing, it's also viewing distance, and portables do tend to be viewed up close. Higher resolution also tends to reduce the "need" for antialiasing or other filtering.

Still, 720p is fine enough for the screen size and use. Not comparable to what's in most phones and tablets these days, but it's higher resolution than a Vita (960x544), which is in turn higher resolution than the Gamepad (854x480).

Generally though, I'd just look at the LCD resolution as an indication of what the system is shooting for as native rendering resolution, and in turn a potential way to ballpark the performance in absence of official specs.

Actually this is sort of a good idea for Nintendo switch. Goodbye Nintendo DS branding. Goodbye Pokemon 2 or 3 blank versions. You never know for sure if there is disc drive, maybe unannounced. It's a Roku handled console.

Yeah, with a screen that small, even at a normal handheld viewing distance, I find it exceptionally unlikely that there will be any discernable difference between 720p and 1080p. If you put your face up against it and TRY to see flaws, then you will, but that's true of a 4K TV if you get close enough.

720p is fine, what I am excited about is the games. Mario Fiesta looked awesome, but I don´t think that game gonna be on launch window.

I don't know if this is allowed so feel free to delete, but I have a blog and we do a podcast called Monsters of Geek. We discussed out thoughts on the Switch the last episode. We didn't know about the touchscreen when we recorded the episode. If you like it please feel free to subscribe. We are on iTunes and Stitcher, and we host on Spreaker.com.

Well and on the subject of screen res, I'd really hope they allowed it to scale up to 1080 or higher when plugged into the base. That would be ideal. I'm not saying it'd be a bad thing if it didn't(especially since I hate those "it's needs allz the latest specz" groups >_<). I just hate that all we're getting for now is that short vid even if there are others that examine it in depth for new stuff

I'm definitely in that group, but 1080p when displaying on the television needs to be a given. As it gets more and more affordable to get large TVs (especially as 4k prices continue to drop and more support for the resolution appears), 720p just isn't going to cut it on larger TVs.

See I think I may have ps3 set to 1080p but the ones that do play in 720 don't look bad at all(looking at you Arkham Asylum). I'm just a little annoyed that people are so worried about specs instead of the games being good(and it seems that even the big companies have gotten caught up in it). I still plan on getting the switch eventually, it'd be nice to have for when I transfer to uni if i even get that far to be able to buy it...
