SNESdrunk reviews
Re: SNESdrunk reviews
I miss you posted links here as they're posted on YouTube. I caught some of the above videos because they were recommend while I was browsing YouTube. But I've also missed some of them until you posted the batches here.SNESdrunk wrote:Here's the next batch:

Just to reiterate what I've said a while back... A lack of response in this thread doesn't mean a lack of interest. I will always watch your new videos, I just don't always have something to say about them.

I keep posting the vids here for the discussion, even if there ends up being none. Just about everyone here is smart well-read and 999x more cultured than I am when it comes to gaming. Plus I'm beginning to see how people are driven insane by youtube comments, I'd rather talk here. I should really be coming here more often, now that work has died down a bit maybe I will next weekZiggy587 wrote:I miss you posted links here as they're posted on YouTube. Re: SNESdrunk reviews
Just throwing this out there... Chrono Cross is probably the most polarizing game I've ever looked into reviewing. Just the list of titles to reviews here is fascinating, from "A timeless RPG," to "A colossal failure."
What do you folks think of Chrono Cross? And forget all the stuff about it being a sequel to Chrono Trigger (because it isn't), how do you feel about it on its own?
I think the battle system, while time consuming and tedious at times, is pretty cool and a welcome change, its well worth checking out on its own IMO. The music is incredible and the overall look of the game is great. But the story is a convoluted mess. And if you're going to have 9,999 characters, would it have killed them to have just a few of them stand out as memorable or different, instead of just saying vague platitudes and cliches? Maybe the translation is to blame there

Now that I think of it, one big negative about CC is that the first time you play it, you're scouring everything looking for any sort of connection to the original game. Now that the cat's out of the bag and most people know it's barely related, when I play it nowdays I can't help but think so much of the game is just filler. "Oh look another wacky random character saying an empty platitude."
Re: SNESdrunk reviews
It was my first PSX JRPG that I owned actually and I loved it back in the day. Its shorter 20 hour length lended itself well to some replay value, alongside the weird design with the multiple routes and different characters you pickup along the way. But do I always want that? I'm not sure... so I replayed the game a little bit a few years ago when I got a copy on the PSN and it was a strange serene experience. I still think the game has an amazing OST, even if it doesn't seem very videogamey in ways, and the backdrops are just insane gorgeous. But the battle system is something I've never liked, even back in the day. The elemental system is kind of cluttered, the weird way you level up only from key boss encounters and such, and the percentage attack system is a bit funky. In comparison, I think Xenogears' (on foot) combat system was 100x more intense and badass (a shame the game ends up favoring the mecha combat, which I didn't like as much).
So yeah, it's a conflicting game even if I grew up loving it. I can easily detach it from Trigger and don't mind that it's its own thing. It's definitely quirky though. I think it gets slammed too much, but I guess there's no denying I can see how it's hit or miss.
The Lynx and sci-fi portions are my favorite parts.

On its own, it's a good RPG. I enjoyed it a lot.

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 - Clock Tower
Re: SNESdrunk reviews
What a perfect game to review in October! Clock Tower has interested me for a while, but I've yet to give it a try. How many hours, roughly, would you say a single play through takes?
For anyone that would wanna pick up a SFC cart, I'm assuming the text is all in Japanese. Luckily, there's a fan translation (which I'm assuming is was SNESdrunk was using in the video).

I've been thinking about picking up that game, along with Laplace no Ma. But the carts have gotten pricier in recent years.
Excellent vid, drunk.
And your Drill Dozer video has inspired me to play the game again. I picked it up years ago, tested it, said "hey that was cool!", and haven't touched it since...
