I was actually excited about the upcoming DSi.
I originally had a DSLite. Which had phenomenal games. But I ended up replacing it with a PSP, since PSP had far better multimedia capabilities.
Thne Nintendo announced DSi. Sounded great: awesome DS game library, 2 built in cameras, SD card, music player, web browser built in, etc.
But then the bad news: No GBA slot. The music player won't play MP3's. Absolutely no video player.
It's a letdown. And I dont think warrants anyone to upgrade. The only people that will buy this are people who have wanted any model DS, but still don't have one.
Am I alone in this thinking?

Like I was just talking about with Niode, the only real upgrade the DSi has is support for WPA wireless security. I literally cannot use my DS online anymore because all it supports is WEP, which a hacker can break in no time. (I've seen it done.) And ever since I jumped to Vista, I can't get my wireless usb dongles to work with the DS as access points, so I guess my DS is now permanently offline. There goes my interest in Phantasy Star Zero.

If the homebrewers figure out a work around on the SD card for GBA games, Ill be all over one.

Re: DSi looks to drop the ball
Well there is absolutely zero reason for me to upgrade to this then. I wasn't really considering this all that much yet, but since the majority of my handheld games are from the GBA, I won't have to at all..
Re: DSi looks to drop the ball
It would only be possible through emulation, since they removed the GBA circuitry, not just the slot.fast wrote:If the homebrewers figure out a work around on the SD card for GBA games, Ill be all over one.

I'll probably get one. The only thing I'm bummed about is the price. I've got a GB Micro for my Advance games.
And yeah, I really do want it just to be able to get online finally.

Heh I was just thinking the same thing, but just got a psp 2001 model for 40 bucks minty, and had a friend use his pandora battery and flash the firmware. Now all I need is a bigger MSProDuo. I can run awesome homebrew apps, PS1 games ripped, and even ripped PSP games! Now all they need is a PSP MMO and I'll be all set!
The DSi is trying to be what the psp wasn't for the younger/lazier crowd; Easy to use multimedia. PSP was really easy out of the box, but the game selection has kept many parents away (I've seen alot of them squeamish about even Teen ratings.) And plus is has 2 cameras! Why not have 2? Everything has a camera in it these days, now your video games can watch you play hundreds of hours or Mario while taking a dump! Sometimes enough is enough.... One camera would be fine but hey why not two for 20 bucks more!
I just don't see the point. Call me out of touch with new fads if ya want

I literally cannot use my DS online any ... n no time.
You can set up two vlans on your wireless router. One with WPA2 for access to your local network, one with WEP that can't see your local network. If a hacker breaks in, who cares then? He can't get to your machines. Is there any reason you'd want to access your LAN from your DS?

Since I how have four devices that can play GBA games (the office for-sale list is awesome), I don't mind losing the GBA slot on the DSi. I already have a DS, but I'm vaguely interested in the potential DSware, and also what people might do with the SD slot.

I'm pretty sure my router doesn't offer that feature, dude. If you think otherwise, educate me. It's a lynksys WRT54GHatta wrote:I literally cannot use my DS online any ... n no time.
