I'm going to go with others on here and predict Nintendo will be re-releasing a lot of the Wii U classics that most people didn't get to play onto the Switch. The trailer showed what I presume is MK8 on there, as well as splatoon, suggesting that Switch versions of those games will be ported over onto NS cartridges. I'm fine with that. Hopefully they add some insentive by maybe adding some bonus stages, graphical upgrades, or at least make them cheaper than standard MSRP for games these days.

I am a bit skeptical about this 3rd party support they're advertising. I don't think any official games have been announced from any of these companies. Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't this how the Wii U started out? With Nintendo promising to improve relations with 3rd party support. But in the end all we got were ports of last years games from other consoles. To add evidence to that, they're showing Skyrim in the trailer. That games from what... 5 years ago? Hopefully i'm wrong and we do see major 3rd party support return to the NS!

Skyrim is originally from several years ago, but its remaster comes out in a week, and that's pretty anticipated (at least from Elder Scrolls fans). Couple that with the Switch's portability, and Skyrim would do extremely well on the Switch, I think. Who doesn't want to be able to play Skyrim while you hide from work in the bathroom attend to bodily functions during the workday?

Not really, no, since the Wii U wasn't a portable tablet. The Gamepad is really more of a wireless display that has no real processing power itself, and the original purpose of including it was to be a second display..

So the NX is just the tablet?
I thought when you switch to tablet mode maybe you will stream games over the net from your "Switch console", or from a server like PS Now, or maybe you will still play the games but in SD?

I thought tablet power was not on par with consoles? I know my iPad Air 2 does not have games like GTA V and Skyrim which were released on PS3 which is 2006 hardware. Not sure to which console generation it is comparable.

Has the "do their own thing" philosophy always worked in terms of business success? No, but isn't their uniqueness what makes Nintendo stand out and the reason that most of us love the company so much? I still have my reservations about the Switch, as I've made known here, but the hardware power and whether it's a "new generation" or "mid generation" are not among them. As far as I'm concerned, this is as next gen as the Wii U was, and I had no problem placing that in the same generation as the Xbox One and Playstation 4. We're just going to need to change the way we think about generations going forward.

I am guessing they do it on purpose to differentiate themselves, more as a toy than just raw computer power upgrades. But that was not the case NES to N64 was not about gimmicks. It sold well because of great games.

I'm kinda annoyed a lot of people are being negative nancies about it. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the look of it and I pre-ordered it already, and that's all that matters... I don't normally give a shit what people think, but in this case, it's kinda weird.

For months now, people have been hyped as fuck for the NX. The anticipation for the announcement was huge. Leaks and rumours were going on for months.

Then it's announced and it is EXACTLY what we all knew it would be. We knew it would be a handheld/portable/home console hybrid. We knew it would have detachable controllers. We knew it would be a tablet-esque portable that docks and connects to your TV. we even knew it would most likely have Splatoon and Mario Kart etc.

Then I see people shitting on it who weren't shitting on it before... smh. If you were shitting on it before the announcement, carry on; but if you're shitting on it after being hyped, well, you either weren't paying attention to the leaks and rumours, or you just love negativity.

Also, people shitting on it due to presumptions on games, power etc. are dumb. We've seen the huge list of developers and publishers working with Nintendo. Next to no games have been officially announced yet and neither have the specs. It was never going to be a PS4 Pro beating, 4K supporting powerhouse when it's also a handheld...

I hope you don't think I was poo-pooing it earlier with my posts. I simply was bringing up questions, only because my brain can't quite handle the idea that Nintendo is releasing a system almost, if not as, powerful as an xbox one and ps4 and have it be this thin portable.

I am crazy excited for it though because I am first and foremost a social gamer. I live and die by playing games with others. I think this will be a great opportunity to do that. Now all I need is to know how the new Club Nintendo plays into all of this

Nah, I wasn't talking about you. Please don't think I was targeting anyone in particular here or being passive aggressive. Sorry, it was general observations I've seen around the internet on social media, other forums and in comment sections of articles etc.

And of course, people are entitled to criticise, entitled to be sceptical and are entitled to have their own opinions. I just don't really get it in this instance. It seems like this is exactly what it was rumoured to be and it's exactly what I hoped it to be.

Where I really think criticisms are lame, is when I've seen people saying "oh, so just more Mario and more Nintendo-niche crap. Why can't they just be like Sony?" or "they won't get third party developers on board. Bet they won't get COD/Fifa/Madden/GTA6". The list of publishers and developers shows they have got people on board (although the Wii U did at first, so it's not yet proof of its success). Or I love how everyone jizzed their pants about the Skyrim remaster and then when we see it on the new Nintendo console, it's "oh, that game is old as fuck. LOL WHO CARES?"

True. I'm not trying to be negative about it; I'm excited for it and plan to pre-order the minute Amazon opens pre-orders. I'm just still skeptical because there's so much that we still don't know that will determine, in large part, what it is, exactly, that we're excited for. When it was just "NX," we knew NOTHING, so it was natural to be excited about the mystery. For me, at least, I now know just enough to start to worry. What will the price be? Sell it at $200, and I will worry about the quality; sell it at $500, and I'll be the only one buying it. How powerful will it be? Matching PS4 Pro would make the cost insane, but if it's roughly on par with the Vita, most won't take any interest. Does the dock offer any sort of processing boost? Displaying a handheld game on the TV is great, but if it's just a handheld game blown up, it's going to be underwhelming.

I'm going to buy it no matter what, and I'm still extremely excited, but I have enough doubts and worries to stay a bit skeptical and reserved regarding the new platform.

You bring up a great point. Now that we know what the NS is, we have so many more questions about storage, motion controls, launch lineup and more! I wouldn't say seeing the console ruined the fun, but it has now heightened it even more! I WANT TO HOLD IT AND RUB IT OVER MY BODY DAG NABBIT!
