Thanks for your well considered comments Ack. Many of your concerns about her inconsistencies are the same things I highlighted to people when I was a delegate for Bernie this year, though I think you have a more comprehensive knowledge of foreign affairs than I do. I get why you are looking for another option, but I personally have generally stopped supporting third party candidates unless I think the main two are equally awful. I was a Nader supporter for awhile, but ultimately feel that he split the liberal vote between him and Al Gore, which allowed George W Bush to take the win. I did end up voting Gore on election day, but I still feel weird about that whole election. Clinton isn't my ideal candidate, but I think she has some genuinely positive merits and Trump is my nightmare candidate, so I really feel I have to cast my vote to keep him out.

Those of you who live in states that are firmly blue or red should feel empowered to vote for a viable third party candidate if they exist - or even not vote for President but vote for candidates in other races. Those of us in battleground states will in fact have to bite the bullet and choose the better of two bad candidates, if only to cancel out the vote of our idiot neighbor...

I dug this up about Kansas which is where I'm at, so yeah haha...
The state is strongly Republican in presidential elections; it hasn't voted for a Democrat since 1964, when Lyndon Johnson won in a landslide. In 2012, Mitt Romney won by 60% to 38% over Barack Obama.
Let's not even talk about Brownback.

But are they? If the Democrats stand no chance of winning Texas, and the Republicans stand no chance of winning California, how exactly are all parts of the country represented? It seems to me that both major parties concentrate on trying to win the eleven or twelve swing states, and the other thirty-eight or thirty-nine states are taken for granted.
The electoral college is a check on the power of vocal minorities, and it ensure somewhat proportional representation in a presidential election regardless of voter turnout. So, for example, if people in Texas were really sore about an issue and the voter turnout there was 100% while the voter turnout in the rest of the country was only 25%, the electoral college would prevent the group in Texas from having and outsized effect on the election.
Well this proves the point. If one does not take the time to vote then your vote should not count. The Electoral College would then be taking a forecast guess of what the people who did not vote would probably vote and definitely cannot be 100% impartial; the vote power of the ENTIRE state controlled by just a few people! :?

So true about Califonia and Texas! This bears repeating:
CRTGAMER wrote:I consider the Electoral College the biggest Voter Fraud! Usually they go by the popular vote by state, but sometimes (though not often) do not! It had a purpose a century ago when states were so isolated, but today the country should really just stick to the actual vote totals of who gets elected. Take the total counts nationwide and not rounded off to each state. :!:

As far as I'm aware slavery is 99% alive. The worlds not falling apart but 1% is definitely draining it dry, all events are being crafted. It's ok if everyone doesn't understand as many are too busy trying to figure out how to survive instead of actually doing anything about it.

If you had all the money in the world and all the toys to go with it, wouldn't it just be more fun to fuck with everyone just cause you can.

Um...no. It actually prevents voters in just one area from exercising an outsized influence on policy affecting the rest of the country.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...there is no conspiracy. (Doesn't that actually make everything scarier?) Your second point is correct, however. People should pay more attention to politics and the issues affecting them, but they often do not because they are too busy focusing on their immediate needs.

Of course, but I'd rather vote my principles if at all possible instead of voting for someone who I may believe is not as awful but still awful. That is why I try to keep an open mind regarding third parties; they may provide a better fit for my views, and I can vote for them with a clear conscious even though I know they will most likely lose. Previously I have not voted for them, but that was because previously I had not encountered a major candidate whom I could not support representing the party I tended to favor.

In this particular election, I've certainly been struggling with this problem, which is why I say I'm cautiously watching Evan McMullin. I will likely not completely decide who to vote for until the day of the election. With the way things have been so far this year, I don't want to settle for someone only to find something horrible about them that could shake my opinion three days before I have to mark a ballot.

Yea but what's wrong with that it's not like I/we can really do anything, I don't fear death should of been dead along time ago. What I fear is living since it's kinda not the same anymore, ya know kinda like living means to make someone else rich.
