So what have you guys been watching lately?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Also The Big Bang Theory. One of the few shows I can tolerate in endless reruns (Simpsons and Futurama are the others).

I really liked it in theory but had trouble in practice. I watched the first miniseries and loved the quality of the acting and the attention to detail. But the show was so dark, so serious, so humorless, and so without hope that I just couldn't keep watching. I know I'm missing out on something great, but it's hard to enjoy something that so wants me to be depressed.
I had this same experience. Every episode of Battlestar Galactica made me want to die. I had to stop watching it.

I've been re-watching Stargate lately. You may recall that I reviewed Season One here.

I'm finishing up season two now, and It's even better than season one. This show is great for consistently balancing action scenes with "talky" scenes - something the writers of Star Trek never quite mastered. I have to give Stargate credit for not shying away from "harder" science fiction. In Season two there's a whole episode on how the gravity of a blackhole affects the Stargate, and the writers manage to tie in an analogy for soldiers left MIA. The writing really impressed me. Another episode depicts an alien technology with an addicting side effect which can change a character's personality to draw an apt metaphor for drug addiction. In other episodes, the analogizes get a little heavy-handed. There's an episode about the rights of aboriginal peoples that's perhaps a little too on-the-nose to be called a metaphor, but overall I like the writing.

In season two we are exploring a larger universe and coming into contact with new alien races. The Asgard and the Tok'ra are fleshed out in this season. Season two also gives us insight into the political makeup of the galaxy and humankind's potential for altering that. World building is stronger than ever in the second season of SG-1.

What a fantastic show!

The early seasons of Stargate are almost right up there with the good seasons of Babylon 5. If any of you like sci-fi series and haven't given Babylon 5 a change, you need to talk to me so I can help you watch it. Why? Because the first season is really rough and turns a lot of people off to the show, but with guidance you can watch key episodes, get the essential info you need, and then plow straight into season 2, from which there is no turning back.

Finished up Luke Cage. Despite some completely unnecessary bits, I sure as heck enjoyed it a lot more than Jessica Jones. I still prefer Daredevil over both, though.

Also, Stargate is awesome, at least until Richard Dean Anderson leaves and we're left with the stupid Ori. I like the Farscape actors, but I hated the plotline of the last two seasons.

Oh man, I hope you don't mean the Scarran stuff! That's the best.

I'm with Sarge. On Stargate, at least.

All I know is that my "list o' reasons Forlorn can't get dates" grows as I find more sci-fi shows to look into.

Nah, the thinly-veiled Catholic Church stand-ins in the last two seasons, with the weird priest dudes. I think the Goa'uld were/are far more interesting.
