Totally unfair!

Oh come on! Anyone else see how horribly that review was put together?

1) He thought the game play was too slow. That's how every adventure game is. So obviously he doesn't like adventure games, why is he reviewing one?
2) He didn't space between sentences which looks childish and un-professional.I mean who writes sentences like this?I certainly don't.Do you?Do you know anyone(besides this guy)who does?
3) He only gave the graphics, sound and presentation 7 out of 10 each. Yet he said in all three category's that it was some of the best he had ever seen.
4) Tyops were rapmant everwyhere.
5) Don't game reviewers usually average there score of a game based on all the scores for each category? Because last time I checked 7.0 + 7.0 + 7.0 + 1.0 + 2.5 = 24.50 and then 24.50 / 5 = 4.90 not 2.0! WTF?

Anyways, in closing I would like to mention that I'm not angry at the score the game got. I'm angry at IGN at for letting an idiot review a game. All together the review sucked. And I hope the guy who wrote it get's hit by a car.

for the total score it does say "not an average" however you're right it appears as though that author does not understand the concept of adventure games.

Everyone has an opinion, but I agree that it's a horrid review. The spacing alone drives me bananas.

Never played it but I'll agree with you on most points. Except for the overall score. IGN doesn't use an average which is good imo. A game could have perfect graphics, perfect sound, and perfect presentation, but still be one of the worst games ever, and therefore wouldn't deserve a 10+10+10+1=7.

You can't spell ignorance without IGN.

Seriously though, IGN is possibly the worst place to turn to for reviews. Of course, I don't really know of a good place to turn to...

I might not be able to see a masterpiece when I walk into a museum, but I can almost instantly spot a pile of shit.

I use reviews to figure out what's in a game when I'm not really sure. If I see a review that uses the phrases "unforgiving difficulty" and "hardcore flavor" in a review of a dungeon crawler, it means that the game is probably going to get a low score, but I'm going to enjoy it. The trick is to learn how to interpret the language they use.

That is the reason I don't like reading reviews most of the time.I don't listen to critics,I buy whatever I want to play. That guy was really against that game he must of had a bad experience with those games.

people get too technical on reviews now a days

A good review system for me would be this

1.Buy this game is a must own
2.Buy the game is great but it might not be for everyone
3. Rent Average game
4. Below average rent it but try to stay away from buying
5. Terrible dont play

Simple to the point and it doesn't have an absurd ranking system.

I dont know why reviews have to have a more complicated system than that. whats the difference between a 9.8 and a 10? does that .2 really make that much difference? If a game is a must buy then why nit pick at it? Dunno sometimes people are just *IGN*orant.

What's the difference between these two options?

I like Destructoid's reviews. They're pretty thorough and not very lenient with scores, unlike most other places. I mean, places like IGN and some others give 9s and 10s to everything, the scores just don't have any meaning anymore.

Most reviewers at Destructoid seem to be rigorous, but fair. And they do employ the score system coupled with this "rent/buy" tag.

I think I only saw one really shitty review over there, and it was for Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero?. The dude just whined the whole time about how the game is incredibly difficult and unfair. He didn't even talk about graphics, sound or anything. It was, however, a deviation from the rule.
