Best Video Player For Dreamcast
I want to watch some videos on my Dreamcast, so what's the best video or VCD player in terms of video quality and speed?
Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
It's not so great for that, especially when it comes to divx. You're much better off using a PS2 with SMS.
Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
You should buy a divx compatible DVD player. Super cheap nowadays.

Don't put miles on your Dreamcast playing movies
. Those apps are especially taxing on it.

Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
I already have a PS2 with SMS. I also have an Xbox with XBMC. I even have a Wii with Mplayer, and have set up wireless video streaming on my 360 and PS3. I also have a few standalone DVD/Divx players. That's not the point. I didn't make this thread to hear that there are better options; I'm well aware of that. I just want to see that the DC can play video. That's all. So, what's the best video player.

Mileage with this shit varies, so just start trying them all. There is no "best".lisalover1 wrote:I already have a PS2 with SMS. I also have an Xbox with XBMC. Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
So their performance varies on different DC's? That's really weird.
Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
It's not so much that it varies on different hardware. It's more that it depends on what kind of video files you're wanting to play. A DivX file will be best played in one player, while a straight up MPG may play best on another, for example. Basically, just try them out and see which one will best fit your needs.lisalover1 wrote:So their performance varies on different DC's? That's really weird.

Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
Well, I was basically going to burn a few episodes of a TV show. Does DCDivx have the best picture quality when playing a .divx file? What I meant to say in the question was, which program performs best under the best circumstances and most appropriate filetypes, but I have a feeling that I'm going to get the same answer, anyway.
Re: Best Video Player For Dreamcast
It's not really going to be watchable. The last time I tried playing divx/xvid movies on my DC I didn't get 24fps and it just looked horrible.
The DC really isn't worth watching videos on. The media players for it just aren't well optimised enough. Either that or the DC just doesn't have enough power to do it properly.
Mpeg movies it copes slightly better with but anything heavily compressed it's really going to struggle.
