JUMP Ultimate Stars made me wanna watch anime again, so I've been poking around at watching some Bobobo! A complete English sub, like, DOESN'T exist (too many hard to translate jokes for them to bother, I guess), but I prefer the English voice cast, so it's not so bad.

I've been wishing there was a full Japanese release of it, but yeah. I think there's a lot of weird licensing issues with it too or something. As a gag anime I imagine a lot of the jokes aren't handled well in the transition to English. I only saw bits of the dub myself, but in general I prefer to watch things in their original language.PartridgeSenpai wrote:JUMP Ultimate Stars made me wanna watch anime again, so I've been poking around at watching some Bobobo! The guy who voices Bobo is one of my favorite VA's too, the guy played Dio in JoJo recently.

Exactly! A lot of the jokes are more cleverly portrayed in the subbed version, but Bobobo's American voice actor just adds so much to the character! He sounds soooo boring in Japanese. I can't stand it.Xeogred wrote:I've been wishing there was a full Japanese release of it, but yeah. I think there's a lot of weird licensing issues with it too or something. I'm finally getting around to Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, been meaning to watch this one for awhile. Definitely seems awesome so far.

Wrapped up Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. It's about an Earthquake hitting Tokyo if the name doesn't give it away. It was a fantastic watch. Prepare to cry. It wasn't too heavy though, very charming and uplifting stuff. But it will tug the emotions.

Yugo the Negotiator (2004) 13eps | 8/10
https://www.anime-planet.com/anime/yugo-the-negotiator
This was a very mature anime, very serious and down to earth. It's about a negotiator as the title says, who specializes in extremely dangerous political diplomacy involving freeing hostages. He's in Pakistan for half the series, and Russia the other half. Well what I didn't expect was how violent this show would get! Let's just say Yugo goes through some extreme torture now and then. I'd go so far as to say he's actually a terrible negotiator, but a great whipping boy.

If you're burnt out on high school kids and magical girls saving the world, give Yugo a try. It's from a different time in the world of anime, bereft of otaku fodder panty shots and obvious cross over potential. The writing is solid, the animation is clean and well drawn, and the English dub is wickedly good. If nothing else, you'll have a new appreciation for what gasoline can do to a person at forty below zero.

Sounds like my kind of show.
Have you seen Texhnolyze? Crazy it's been out for about 10 years. By this point I'm fairly content in believing I'll probably never see an anime that fucked up again.

Yes, I watched it back in 2008. I don't remember much about it, but I do remember enjoying it and thinking it was underrated.Xeogred wrote:Have you seen Texhnolyze?
That's exactly how I feel about Gantz.Xeogred wrote:By this point I'm fairly content in believing I'll probably never see an anime that fucked up again.

Looks like my next anime series is Master Keaton. It's partially created by the guy who was behind Monster, and that's a serious credential in my book.

I really wish BTOOM! got a second season
. Pretty much given up hope at this point might be one of the rare cases where I just end up reading the manga since they finished it up in 2014. Can't believe it's been 4 years since the first season ended on a shitty cliffhanger
.

Other than Dragon Ball Super, I haven't been watching any series. Can't find one I like, mainly one that holds my attention well.
I have Netflix and Anime Network(On Demand). Anyone recommend a series that is on either or both of these services?
