I work at GameStop & I can tell you that it's just as hit or miss as most PNT's are. The employees are hired and fired at the managers discretion, so if the guy helping you is a douche then chances are that the manager is too.

Also GameStop doesn't franchise out stores so the manager can't just decide if he/she want's to have retro at their loaction eve if they wanted to. Hell, we can't even control our own inventory, the computer automatically has the warehouse ship us whatever games corporate thinks we should have; then it prints out a list of games that we're to ship to the warehouse, or other stores for 'reprocessing & redistribution'.

As for cassidy's post above, follow glynnahab's advice and punch that son of a bitch in the face.

Also to let you guys in on a GameStop/Software etc../Babbages/Electronics/Boutique/EbGames/EBX/Funcoland/Rhino Games (Yes, they're all the same company now, if there are any left that haven't been rebranded.) company secret. : They destroy old games. Yes you read correctly, last january would have been the last time you would have seen any kind of retro at all at a GameStop or GameStop owned chain. As of mid january all unsold or backstock inventory was to be put on hold, then in february/march stores with large quantities of inventory shipped the remainder to the warehouse for destruction. Stores with smaller quantities were to take it out to the dumpster and 'field destroy' their inventory.

And for those of you who are wondering 'field destroy' means everything was either destroyed then tossed in the dumpster, or just tossed in the dumpster. That's why GameStop really sucks above all else.

If we ever get a copy of MvC2 or any high profit game we're supposed to 'complete the trade at all costs', because we trade it in for about $20 and sell it for $75 so it's a $55 turnaround for the company.

Also as new games get older GameStop will actually buy some games and 'convert' them to used, which mostly consists of the usual gutting and a healthy dose of (cringe) those fucking yellow stickers.

The manager at our store is a good guy though so he lets us do the honest thing and not rip the customers, although whether he's a nice guy has recently come into question because he 'banned' me from pre-ordering anything for the remainder of my employment because I canceled my DSi pre-order, though I hope to throw company policy in his face as he can't simply 'ban' anybody from the system like he did me unless the cancels are excessive in nature (you know pre-ordering to get the bonus then canceling etc...).

Don't worry about that you've still got about six months before high circulation (that's large amounts of games being sent between stores and the main warehouse) begins tapering off, and even then you've still got about six months before they start getting scarce in stores. Also don't forget, after that happens you've got about one to two years before the games are destroyed on average. I ordered about $200 worth of SNES, PS1, and Genesis games before they were destroyed.

I ordered them the same way a customer would, all you have to do is ask the manager to find you a game, if the GameStop you're at doesn't have it then ask him for the nearest one that does if they're too far away then just ask if that store could ship it to your particular GameStop you go to and that's all it takes. Shipping usually takes three days from order, so order Monday get it either Wednesday or Thursday (except for Saturdays and Sundays); if it still hasn't arrived after three or so days then go to your GameStop and have them harass the other store until they ship it to your store. And that's how it's done.

Good to know I can harass them to ship it to the store nearest me, but I doubt I'd be able to specify that it must be a complete copy with the case and instruction booklet and not greatest hits...

There isn't too much I'm on the lookout for that shouldn't be too easy to find.

Actually you can trust me I did it like anybody would. That means you follow the instructions above, but specify that you want a complete or black label copy if at all possible.

You see the problem is that where I live now in NC, anything Xbox smells like weed, cigarettes and booze, so compared to where I used to live in Jersey it's pretty hard to find 'fresh' smelling or looking games.

My experience with them has been nice. They seemed a little wacky on their prices. But they have carried a lot of stuff I've looked for and couldn't find anywhere else. I was even able to haggle a little with the guy working at the time and got a free dreamcast controller, VMU, and game when I bought a dreamcast from them.

Anybody know if there's one in or near the Statesville, NC area?

Their website doesn't seem to keep up very well when new stores open up, or old stores close down.
