it's not even about PC vs console, though. It's a PC game that offers kb/m controls but the mouse-look is so broken. It's just kind of devastating. Until they fix it, I can't play it.

Hey guys, my friend finally picked up the RE5 remaster on PS4 and I'm streaming our play through as we go along. I deleted my progress so we can start from scratch.

Archiving to this playlist on YouTube:

Streaming here: twitch.tv/wip3outguy7

Episode one is up at the time of this posting. I'm going to try to keep this going regularly, but that will mostly depend on the friend's schedule. These streams will normally air between 7:30pm and 10pm central time US.

BTW, there is a Resident Evil sale on PSN right now. I picked up the HD versions of REmake and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X.

Play CV immediately so I can see someone elses reaction.

The more I sit on it after beating it over the weekend the more I'm okay with it, but it really is just the Chris portion that redeems it for me. That's only about 30-40% of the game though. If the game had pre-rendered backdrops and had defensive items or less obtusely hidden weapon requirements, I'd probably like it a lot more. Plus you go through a lot of the game with Claire without a shotgun, which is just awkward. Overall there's just something really drab about the game to me. Not horrible but very low tier.

So my issue with Zero is the lack of item chests, as the rooms have limits to them and the further you get in the game... the more time consuming the "item management" backtracking and all that becomes. Really brings it down to me. But it'll be interesting to see what I think another time through. I'll probably put it above CV.

REmake HD is an 11/10. Godly perfection.

Back in 2001, it was featured in EGM 150 as one of the greatest games ever made. Playing through every game on every one of EGM's lists of the greatest video games of all time is one of my life goals; so, I will be getting through it at some point. (I should really start a thread about that...) Currently, however, I have only played through two Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. I loved both of them; so, I don't know why I haven't played through more games in the series.

.....

What is the "definitive" version of the original Resident Evil? I understand that the HD REmake is amazing, but to get the full experience, should I also play through something closer to the PS1 original (like Resident Evil Deadly Silence)?

I would strongly recommend the HD remake. Like Xeo, I consider it perfection. It is the definitive version in my book. It's the way they WOULD HAVE made the game in 1996 had they been able to at the time.

The HD remake is incredible and should be played by every Resident Evil fan, but for your first playthrough of the original, I'd suggest Deadly Silence.

If you're going for completeness then play Deadly Silence and then a version of the Remake. But having played both I don't feel like it's necessary to play Deadly Silence; the remake smoothes out the rough edges but the core gameplay and feel is still all the same; you're basically just getting the low poly models and the hilariously bad dialog.

Well if you've played RE2 prfsnl_gmr, then I think you should check out RE1 PSX sometime as well. It's a Metroid / Zero Mission case to me. I love and appreciate both versions. I just tend to think REmake is a brilliant gateway for newer fans or people who want something a little more refined. But if you end up liking others in general, the original is fun. Plus it has the hilarious dub, intro scenes, and other charming things about it. If you play and familiarize yourself with REmake first, it's pretty easy to blast through quickly too.

Just make sure it's either the original release or the Director's Cut, NOT the Director's Cut Dual Shock edition. That's the one with a completely different soundtrack that's hilariously bad. The PSN (US) version is unfortunately the dual shock one.
