How long until the next generation of game system?
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
I'm thinking we'll get the first peak during 2012 and then get the actual systems in 2015.
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
I'd say around 2012. I think being able to put out firmware updates will make this batch of consoles last for awhile though, the next gen will probably be pretty bleeding edge for a year or so, and then they'll stick around for a long time again due to online updates and better planning.
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
I reckon, too, that before this generation (and arguably the last one), there were new consoles being pushed to the market every one or two years. This doesn't happen anymore.
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
10 years ago, there were leaps and bounds to be made in the industry. So every couple of years was natural.
The next big leap to happen is Home Imax theaters....the mass public isnt ready for that yet.
We're just starting to take advantage of 5.1 audio systems, and HD graphics...we have awhile to go.
Developers are barely pushing consoles this generation.

Atari returns with the Jaguar 720

yeah I say they give us till 2012 so we can enjoy the ones we've got (more games please!) and lower console prices etc and they have some serious work to do on these new consoles (backwards compat is a must, more power and innovation etc)
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
I would seriously, SERIOUSLY hope that the Wii, PS3 and 360 all stick around for a long time. Games that properly utilize the Wii-mote are few and far between, and the potential of the PS3 and 360 has barely even been scratched. All three consoles have plenty of room to grow, and they damn well better be given the time to grow.
If a successor console really does come out in less than two years as a few people are predicting, I will abandon console gaming (well, NEW console gaming) for a while. It just won't be worth it anymore to drop 400 bones on something that will be dropped in 5 years.
Edit: Not to mention that, considering the shit-hole the economy will be going through, I highly doubt many people will be able to afford current gaming consoles in 2 years, much less new ones.

As others have stated I hope not till 2012 or later.. these systems still have a lot of potential left and with the current economy how it is it wouldn't be smart to release new consoles yet!!

I'd say they are pretty maxed out. fallout3 for instance was better on pc as far as graphics and detail vs say xbox360RemyC wrote: Developers are barely pushing consoles this generation.

Is it possible that developers just didn't know what they were doing? or were lazy?holaback wrote:I'd say they are pretty maxed out. fallout3 for instance was better on pc as far as graphics and detail vs say xbox360RemyC wrote: Developers are barely pushing consoles this generation.
