Since I got my CRTs there are two sounds I associate with gaming and one is always followed by the other. The first is the "screech, screech!" the Wii makes when it's turned on and the second is the dull "ponk!" the monitor does while degaussing.
These two sounds have followed my most recent gaming obsessions so they have become something I associate with gaming itself.
What about you, what sounds do you associate with gaming?

My two biggest ones are the "BING" that the second model Xbox 360 makes when you touch the power or disc tray feely-places (since they're not buttons, I don't know what to call them) and - of course - the horrible grinding/jet engine noise of the Dreamcast.

Well probably since it's where I started but if I just hear that coin sound from SMB1, it's game time, the mushroom use sound too. They're constants over the years, not even Zelda kept the same effects up until the treasure box jingle got its place where you get some item but even it varies.
For the arcade though, there never really was a constant other than the already linked up Neo-Geo start up tune with their logo as it popped up to fill the screen.
And then in handheld -- seriously? Gameboy/Gameboy Color bing! and such a simple singular tone causes a lot of memories for instant association with handheld gaming (and later the GBA mini-jingle too.)
