Re: What Exactly Is Kirby?
I always figured Kirby was some kind of cell or a germ. He bonds with his enemies and adapts to them. But when I think of a germ I don't think of cute pink puffballs.

He's a stylized human being, obviously.
Re: What Exactly Is Kirby?
Those are creepy.
Here's two things I know that give some sort of idea as to what's up with Kirby.
1. According to what I've heard about the story of the series, Kirby is a star warrior destined to protect the galaxy. However, he was awoken much earlier then he was supposed to be, and thus is still sort of a kid. Whatever Kirby IS, my guess is he was supposed to be much different, but since he woke up so soon he wound up looking very "undeveloped" and kid-like.
2. I've read somewhere that Kirby's design was actually just made as a placeholder for the first game until they decided on a proper protagonist design, but they decided that his simple looks fit in with the aesthetic of the game better then anything they could come up with. So basically he was just convenient to draw and easy to express emotions with even in the 8-bit era.

I wanted to be a Teminator but they require you have an armored hyperalloy skeleton and mine's mostly recycled truck tires.

Re: What Exactly Is Kirby?
He's the hero Dreamland deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...a pink thing.
