I bet we'll have our hands on a new system before the end of 2010.

...It starts when Microsoft says it does.
Assholes.

Wii is the most successful next gen system. The next Xbox will have N64 graphics and launch with "Halo Party Wars" and "Blinx the Time Cat: New Play Control!" You'll also need your parents approval to add friends on xbox live, even if you're 32.
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
The lines between generations are certainly blurred now, with the PS2 still selling extremely well. Also, with constant firmware updates consoles feel more fresh every couple of months and that might prolong their longevity.

I think we will get current-gen support up to around 2013
We will probably see some ad-dons for the consoles next year.
New consoles in the year or two after

They'd better be backwards compatible. I don't wanna hear talk about new systems until they figure out how to have seamless backwards compatibility.
Re: How long until the next generation of game system?
I reckon we'll be rockin' these systems until at least 2015.
I think Nintendo have the right idea though, with the enhancing interactivity with games rather than pushing graphics. That route is ultimately predictable and the only place that hardware can go is bigger and faster. Whereas creating better ways to interact with games in general is a much more beneficial R&D route.

I think it will be longer than most people expect. There really havent been any announcements yet, and usually you have an idea what is going on if something is coming out in the next 18 months. Also, everyone except nintendo was bleeding money at the beginning of this gen. MS is making money now and will continue pushing its current box until sales begin to slow down. Sony is still trying to make money somehow off of this gen, and dont have the resources to launch a new system at the moment. Nintendo has the weakest, but most profitable system right now, and are going to continue to milk Wii for all its worth. I dont think we will see anything until at least 2011, maybe even later than that. Due to the enconomy, and the ever increasing length and cost in game development,, I think this gen will last for quite a bit longer than the previous few.
Where do we go from here? A Wii type of console with better graphics? Casuals wont go for it, they just got Wii. Are Sony and MS going to continue to pump out new and more expensive hardware that is unprofitable? I doubt it. PS3 isnt even at a price point for market saturation yet. Sony isnt going to make the mistake of releasing a super expensive system next gen.. Something like a PS3, or even Xbox360, with a bit more ram to spread around would really be all we could ask for at the current moment. and an upgrade like that isnt worth releasing a whole new system over. Upgrading system architecture to much more would result in prohibitively expensive game development costs and difficulty.
Plus i am not ready to spend more money on a new gen yet.

I really hope that they wait a little while maybe 2015, cause right now its really pointless.
