I'm interested in what you thought of the last scene.Fragems wrote:It gets better the first couple repeats are confusing and somewhat slow but things really pick up 5-6 episodes in. They explain what's up with the main character eventually.
Just finished watching the last episode which aired over the weekend and the ending is pretty well done. Seems like there will probably be a season 2 eventually as well.

The manga has some more content according to the comments I've read so there should be enough material for another season I'm just not sure how much farther ahead of the anime it is so it could be a year or twoSoldier Blue wrote:I'm interested in what you thought of the last scene.Fragems wrote:It gets better the first couple repeats are confusing and somewhat slow but things really pick up 5-6 episodes in. Great anime either way and yes I hope we get a new season. I definitely need my fix.

I ended up picking up the manga adaptation of All You Need Is Kill. I thought it was quite enjoyable; the action is drawn well so you don't lose track (Trigun is REALLY bad that way) and the story is quite solid. It's quite different from the Western adaptation (Edge of Tomorrow) so it's definitely worth checking out on its own merits.

Mob Psycho 100 just aired it's final episode and I have to say I'm extremely underwhelmed. Honestly if I were to rank the episodes this would be second to last with the pilot being probably the lowest ranked in my book. It wasn't a horrible ending but it just wasn't the finale I was expecting. I was really expecting a massive battle like what we got with One Punch Man but it just completely fell flat with the conclusion to the final battle being handled in an unexpected manner within the first half of the episode. The second half of the episode doesn't even feature a fight it's just slow build up for the inevitable season 2
.
I still really enjoyed it though and recommend watching it if you liked One Punch Man. Hopefully One Punch Man season 2 isn't to far off.

Been watching a bunch of Inu Yasha lately. This series is maybe Rumiko Takahashi's best work.
Also, you can tell this series is rooted in the 1990s because everybody has bangs.

My knowledge of Rumiko Takahashi is pretty limited. I love Urusei Yatsura and really want to read (or watch) Maison Ikkoku. Beyond that... well I have the first blu-ray set of Ranma 1/2 but haven't watched it yet.
I've managed to stick with my goal of one episode of One Piece per day this year and so now I'm into the Enies Lobby arc, which I've been completely loving. I just wrapped up the three episode flashback of Nico Robin's childhood. Looks like the next couple episodes are clip-show-filler but I can deal with that.
This show has a reputation for unbearable filler, but honestly, compared to something like Dragon Ball Z, it's not bad. There are maybe 7 bad episodes in between two stretches of 60 absolutely amazingly great episodes. DBZ on the other hand dragged out each episode to contain a bare minimum of content/action which lowered the quality of the whole series.
I'm also watching Soul Eater Not! after having immediately finished the original Soul Eater. I'm under the impression that Soul Eater pioneered the "magical high school" genre and a lot of folks consider it a sort of classic. Personally, I think SE is okay as far as shonen fighting anime goes, but the only thing that makes it special is the Halloweeny aesthetic. Otherwise it was too inconsistent in tone with action/comedy stuff and felt like it was aimed too squarely at a younger demographic. Soul Eater Not is a prequel focusing on three cute girls who are attending the "Death Weapon Meister Academy" and mixes the "cute slice-of-life" genre with the violent/action roots of Soul Eater in a really fun way. So you'll have an episode where the girls where cute costumes and work as waitresses but then later in the episode someone is violently murdered. Overall it's pretty lightweight fare but I'm liking it.

Rumiko Takahashi has some great stuff in print and video. I used to have that 4 book series of Mermaid Scar, kind of a horror type series and very well done. Ranma 1/2 I have all but 2 of the books at this point, never got into the video as viz liked to (in gaming terms) 'square tax' the crap out of those tapes and dvds. Inuyasha is solid, only watched that one but I could see reading it. I have almost all the Lum/Urusei Yatsura books translated to english back in the 90s and they're funny stuff. Also back in the 90s too Viz did bother to do a Rumic Trilogy (obviously 3 books) and also a couple other Rumic Theater books and those little one offs in all those are so worth reading.
My amusement value is pretty high with her work right along with Akira Toriyama and I really wish more than his Sand Land, DB, DBZ stuff would end up getting the english manga treatment aside from Cowa (good Halloween period book.) Same goes to Astroboy creator Osamu Tezuka.

Ranma 1/2 is great until about season 4. There are still great episodes after that, but certain characters get annoying and too ever-present, and while the series in inherently repetitive in both print and animation, it's harder to deal with in the animation. The OVAs and movies are good, though, as well. So stick to seasons 1-4, the OVAs, and the movies and you're golden.
She has some great shorter works as well, like the Mermaid tales, which are much different from her longer-running works, and her Rumic World stuff, which is effectively a bunch of different short bits with some funny running gags.

Friends have always told me to take breaks with Ranma.
Loved Maison though.

Nothing from this current season has caught my attention at least not from the art/synopsis. Might have to just plow into a few episodes to see if any are decent but it looks like a bunch of cutesy dramas this time around.
About the only thing I'm watching so far is Season 2 of Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans, but honestly the first episode was a little slow although episode 2 looks like it should start off right in the middle of some decent action. Kind of surprised that they started the season with everyone back on Mars already, but honestly I'd rather have that then more Earth action since things were really slow at the end of Season 1.
