I was thinking about how we never got a true third follow up to the Rainbow Six Vegas games. So I will be going through Vegas 1 & 2 on the Xbox 360. It's been a very long time since I played these games (2008).

I'm curious how things hold up. Lots have changed in the FPS genre since the first Vegas both in presentation and overall controls.

This November marks 10 years since Vegas 1.

Damn!

I'm not sure if I played Vegas 2, but I remember Vegas being pretty awesome. It seemed less complex than the older games but still had some complexities to it that you don't find in most shooters. I'd be curious to hear how it holds up.

I have not played Vegas 1. Recently though, my wife and I tried to co-op through Vegas 2 via splitscreen. We were playing through it well enough, but we both got bored. Vegas 2 is tremendously monotonous. Its game design simply doesn't variate enough to stay compelling for as long as it lasts (and it lasts too long).

But hey, Vegas 1 might be great, I dunno.

I played Vegas 1 and it was really fun. The only issue I had were the sometimes useless teammates, but that's an issue I've seen in every RS game I've played. Although the Asian teammate sounded funny when he refused your orders to move to a new cover location. I liked how the weapons and re-supply points were handled in the game, and all the destruction you can make.

I keep meaning to start up Dishonored again. There's a part of me that is starting to think that I don't really enjoy those story-based FPS games as much as I used to. I don't know. Maybe coming back to it after taking a break I'll feel differently.

Dishonored is really good though, so it's worth the effort  I remember it having a fairly demanding intro section though, much like the original Deus Ex (which took several attempts for me before it "clicked"). If you didn't get far into it, that might just be something to account for, and try to power through.

I should say that I didn't hate it. I was enjoying it more than say, the original Bioshock - probably more for the combat than anything. I believe I left off on the mission where I had to find the brothel? At least that sounds like a mission worth seeing

Eh, man I wouldn't compare Dishonored much to Bioshock or Ken Levin'e style. I mean, it's got the Deus Ex styled hub with a few characters for some interlude downtime, the art style is kind of similar, but otherwise I'd argue it's a way more purely gameplay driven game, just like the original Thief games.

Sorry that just seemed like a weird nitpick. Dishonored feels as less-story driven as it gets for first person games to me nowadays. Not in a bad way at all either. I'm beyond stoked for 2.

It took my roommate 3 times to get into it, but he sucks at stealth and usually does Solider-styled characters in everything so he had to adapt to that. It's less combat heavy than Bioshock, but has the best exploration and platforming in the modern FPS genre of this style I'd say. I love the new Deus Ex games, but they are way clunkier in comparison.

Basically I think Dishonored is a work of art and is going to age extremely well.

I'm looking forward to cutting a bloody swathe with Emily Kaldwin. She was willing to forgive the first betrayal; not the second.

I'm just grouping so-called "immersive sims" together is all. I definitely think stuff like Bioshock, Dishonored, Deus Ex, Thief are different style games than say Wolfenstein New Order, Doom (4), Call Of Duty or other more shoot stuff and move forward single player FPS games.

At any rate, I don't hate Dishonored. There's plenty I like. I just think I don't LOVE the sub-genre in general. But I do plan to keep playing for a while and see how it goes. Maybe I'll change my mind.
