I've seen the OVA for Black Rock Shooter, which had cool action, but I don't remember it being very good or logical in terms of plot. It has been a while though.

Haven't watched Bonguo Stray Dogs.

I have been watching...

New Game! (although maybe that finished?), which is about a girl that gets hired out of high school to be an artist at her favorite game company (which seems to be entirely women...in fact, I don't think there's a single named male character in the series). It's decent, but not really must-see. If you like cute anime girls and video games though (possibly a given here), worth a look.

Assassination Classroom, which was hyped a bit back when it came out. Spent the first few episodes wondering if the main character was a girl, spent the next few surprised that he wasn't...felt vindicated when characters in the show were surprised he was male when they went to a pool.

Berserk (the current one), which I'm still not super-keen on the CGI animation for, but if it keeps them from running out of money like the original series did... I think it's still following the manga pretty closely. I haven't read it in a while, but I did remember some scenes that the show has done.

Well with blackrock after watching the OVA in the club it made a lot more sense with some of the discussion that went on. Bungou however is peculiar if only for the fact most characters in the society the orphan kid gets in with are based on Japanese literature. The guy he first meets who is a suicidal maniac is based on the author of the same name and has the same tendencies the writer did(who failed multiple times attempting it before finally succeeding with his then wife apparently in real life).

I saw new game on CR though and kinda like that premise, if i had the money I'd subscribe so I could watch that and the rest of Bungou. There's even another one they mentioned in that club based on the same writers though named Aoi Bungaku which depressingly isn't on any truly legal streaming service. Probably a good thing too since it's more accurate to the life stories of said Japanese authors apparently.

It seems both Bungou and Aoi are part of something I wouldn't mind devoting some time to. I kinda like this stuff where real people are used in the media like this. The only other thing i know of that is of any similarity is that PS3 game about Choplin. I just can't place my finger on it what is so interesting about this kind of stuff though...

Some others offhand...

Miyazaki's final film The Wind Rises is based on the life of the engineer behind the Zero fighter.

Many of the characters in the Sengoku Basara franchise are based on historical figures. Granted, about as realistically as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but still.

Steins;Gate incorporates a fair bit involving John Titor, which was a 2000-2001 internet hoax.

Actually bumped into this video on youtube the other day while looking up Bungou the other day that dives into the characters and real world counter parts they are loosely based on.

Obviously there are some spoilers in the video though :P.

Well Bungou stray dogs isn't very realistic either if we're real honest either, doubtful that several random Japanese authors had supernatural powers like that. I'll have to check out those other two though. I feel like I've heard of Steins Gate in the very least but never gave it much though. Going in the bookmark bar now though

Edit: Also was wondering why breetai's thing some of you have in your sig bar looked so familiar to me beyond seeing it here everytime I'm on. It's the enemy commander in Robotech a really good anime(despite it being kinda super cheesy for it's age). I feel so stupid for not realizing that's what that was

I Just finished watching RE Zero and boy what an incredibly good anime. I would definitely put it in my top 5 for sure. I certainly wasn't expected it to be so good coming in, so I'm just grateful I had the opportunity to enjoy it.

I have to say though I did almost stop watching halfway through because it did get rather convoluted, but it ended quite nicely and the main character really comes through.

Now if anyone can share their thoughts on the last scene because it did seem a bit cryptic.

On a similar note, Basilisk puts a supernatural spin on real historical characters and events. According to wikipedia:
Related historical events
1579: Oda Nobukatsu (the son of Oda Nobunaga) attacked Iga Province and was beaten.
1581: Oda Nobunaga attacked and destroyed Iga Province.
1582: Incident at Honnōji - Oda Nobunaga died.
1603: Edo period started. Tokugawa Ieyasu re-established the shogunate (third and last in Japan's history) and became the first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
1605: Tokugawa Hidetada became the second shogun.
1614: Winter Campaign of the Siege of Osaka - Tokugawa attacked Toyotomi Hideyori.
1615: Summer Campaign of the Siege of Osaka - Toyotomi clan perished.
1616: Tokugawa Ieyasu died.
1623: Tokugawa Iemitsu became the third shogun.
By the way, Basilisk was animated by GONZO, which is reason enough to watch. Added bonus: Ninjas and boobies!

This seems good but

Seriously, i know i've only watched the first two episodes but i have no clue what the hell is going on here. I broke down and signed up for a free trial of crunchyroll(using one of the many promo codes that are out there that got me 30 days and hopefully I'll be earning money again by then). Hope the next few episodes explain what's going on here...

It gets better the first couple repeats are confusing and somewhat slow but things really pick up 5-6 episodes in. They explain what's up with the main character eventually.

Just finished watching the last episode which aired over the weekend and the ending is pretty well done. Seems like there will probably be a season 2 eventually as well.

I'd hope so this is really really good even if I'm confused out of my mind right now. I mean seriously, episode four just tossed another screw ball and i'm a little mad at that fact...
