When you touch a floor portal, first it asks if you want to go down, and then you have an option to "resume game" or "save" or "return to title screen". Saving is a hard save.

And yes, the Wii version supports it as the video shows above.

The only differences with the Wii version is it supports widescreen and progressive scan.

Ohhhh.

I thought you meant that if you got to floor XXX, then died, when you went to start again you could skip straight to floor XXX.

Yes, the game definitely does support that sort of save and quit behavior. And apparently you can hard save and restore? I never bothered doing that. To advance the world state you need to both die and make it to the end of various crawls while triggering various things, so you shouldn't feel it necessary to have a "perfect" run each time.

You can't start from later floors, but can save after each floor. Meaning, if you die, you could reload the save and restart the floor you died on instead of getting kicked back to the entrance.

As Lauren said. If you save at a floor transition, power off the system, and then later re-load that save, you can start from exactly where you left off. I'm saying this for other people's information who will read this later. Say hi Google bot!

And you're right that a perfect run isn't necessary to succeed. This isn't Fatal Labyrinth.

Brigandine. It's an conquest RPG. There's barely any story and it's kinda simple but it's just addictive building a powerful army and conquering the world.

Some people don't know about the Grand Edition. In case you do not, here's what it changes/adds:
Brigandine: Grand Edition

The remake of the game released in 2000 had many significant changes, including:

Multiplayer game mode: allowing up to 6 players, each controlling a nation;
The Esgares Empire became a fully playable nation, and gained plot cut scenes;
Changes on battle mode gameplay:
Like on the Fire Emblem series, elements became based on the Rock, Paper, Scissors rule: red is effective against green, green is effective against blue, and blue is effective against red. White and black still oppose each other;
If, after 13 turns of battle, the attacking side has a unit over the defending side's castle, the attacking side now wins.
Monsters became able to equip items;
The player is redirected to a final boss, when the continent is successfully conquered;
The original 3D opening was replaced by an anime opening;
Many dialog-only cut scenes were replaced by anime cut scenes;
3D battle animations replaced by simpler and faster 2D animations;
Major changes on soundtrack;
New rune knights, character classes, items and monsters.
Voice acting is present with Japanese voice actors, including the voice talents of Sōichirō Hoshi, Mitsuaki Madono and Yuri Shiratori to name a few.
If you're interested in playing the Grand Edition, it was translated:

I've not personally played Brigandine myself, I mean to someday as I've only ever seen praise for the game.

Dragon Quest IX
Finally finished up Brigadoom last night, by taking down Morag. Hopefully I'm done with the Wight Knight's scenario now, because it's on to Coffinwell.

I did see that there was second version of it but there wasn't a PSP eboot for it. Some of the changes do sound interesting and if ever want to have another round at it i will try the grand version.

Nice, thanks. That makes it easier to play it someday because my actual PS1 has a broken drive and so far i haven't gotten into PS1 emulators.

Currently i'm playing King's Field aka King's Field 2. Maybe it's partly because i played the PS2 one before but this one actually feels lot easier than the PS2 game so it isn't as tense.

But i'm still liking it more because you can actually run in the game so it doesn't take forever to travel around.

I enjoy ePSXe's graphical enhancements, but the portability of the PSP for playing PS1 games is hard to beat admittedly. If you need any help with PS1 emulation (not saying you do, just saying IF), these tutorials are great:

King's Field IV is harder than King's Field II, insofar as combat and enemy threats is concerned. However I found world navigation to be trickier in King's Field II than I did King's Field IV. The island of Melanat is internally quite labyrinthine, fully of hidden doors and recursive tunnels, it's a serious maze when you finally get every door unlocked. But those mine carts are fun to ride!

The actual hardest King's Field though, at least IMO, is King's Field III. That game can be utterly brutal at times, not to mention absolutely cryptic. The easiest King's Field is the Japanese original.

But yeah, to put it midly, I'm a huge King's Field fan. I've finished every one of them, including the Japanese original, and even King's Field III's "Pilot Style" offshoot. I even bothered to beat Shadow Tower 1 & 2, and Eternal Ring. So if you ever want to have an indepth conversation about these games, I'm more than happy to do so.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
