What Exactly Is Kirby?

I had never thought of it before, but this topic recently came to mind for me; what kind of creature is Kirby? It started when I was reading a review of a Kirby game online, and the reviewer mentioned that he thought Kirby was a ghost. At first, I thought this theory was a load of crap, but it got me thinking. What is Kirby? Since it's obviously a fiction game, Kirby's probably not based off anything at all, but what's your opinion?

He's been officially described as a "blob," named after Nintendo's Lawyer John Kirby who won a case against Universal when they sued over the similarities between King Kong and Donkey Kong.

Nintendo has never categorically stated that Kirby is "X or Y" or whatever, just that he's male and from Dream Land on Popstar.

Now that we have that out of the way - what the fuck is Birdo?

Now that we have that out of the way - what the fuck is Birdo?

Birdo is the first (and only?) transgendered video game character. I remember this from the old Super Mario Bros. 2 instruction manual. It said something about him thinking he's a girl, or wanting to be one - hence the bow on his head.

I bet Nintendo had no idea how forward-thinking they were being at the time. Still waiting on that Ru-Paul shmup, though....
