The games are so cheap, and some of them are so good. The platform is amazing for adventure and puzzle games. It is also home to some great non-traditional games, and I think that most of the innovation in modern game design is occurring there.
I have over 100 Wii U games when I include digital titles in my calculation. The system is home to some pretty great digital exclusives, and it also receives some mobile and PC ports not available on other consoles.Exhuminator wrote:Funny, that's how I feel about the Wii U!Sarge wrote:I agree, it's not completely devoid of quality software... just mostly.

Also there are some rad ass emulators on mobile. I'm playing through The 7th Saga on my smartphone for example, using SNES9X for Android. Touch screen works perfectly fine for turn based RPGs, and old JRPGs work great as 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there kind of experiences.

For real. I have almost 130 between digital and physical, and another 22 if you include Virtual Console (which I almost never buy unless it's on sale).prfsnl_gmr wrote:I have over 100 Wii U games when I include digital titles in my calculation. You're really missing out on some stuff on Wii U, but at this point, you might as well wait it out. I expect some ports from Wii U to NX, perhaps all the big-name titles.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Perhaps that's why the NX is what it is eh? The current market with the tablet or controller with a clip on game pad or pad+stand is just retarded, it's not practical as it's a space waster. Even the Nvidia Shield handheld is a joke with that flip down mess as it's bulky and not helpful for on-gaming with it in the way. No one wants baggage, or if they do, they want it as small as possible. That's why you have a strong enough market to support thsoe fairly small and thin bluetooth controllers like the original steelseries pad or the 8bitdo type stuff as you can still pocket it easily. Yet even then, it's lugging +1 things with you.
Nintendo though appears with NX have mitigated that, they've created a tablet that has a controller or 2 break away parts for 2P gaming on 1 tablet. No extra parts required. The rough schematic stuff we see smells like the nvidia shield tablet with controls slapped on the far ends of both sides. Big flat touchy area, controls, tiny port for a memory card (in this case the dedicated NX cards vs micro SD. It's why I think Nintendo may be doing something right this time. You have this android looking NintendOS thing going, then the hardware itself in how its designed. I mean this is a stretch as we're talking close minded Nintendo, but if this has a full general tablet support system going with an easy to grab stuff from app store so people could use it as a tablet device they'd be set. Even if this is a test, a first step into a 5~years down the road dedicated Nintendo gaming tablet that runs their crap, everyone else's, a closet Android setup (sorta like FireOS tries to be) it could work.
I think the handheld market really has not shrunk as much as it has settled. I see kids and adults use them when I'm out and about, but not as much as phones, not tablets, phones. The market is there, but many who would have used a DS or a GBA some wanted entertainment, the phone does this, so you don't need it. But those who want a gaming device over another way to access the internet or take notes, the handheld market is there for them. It was always niche, just now it's niche with far more choices so you may not want the Nintendo or Sony device, just an Android or iOS one is all. Again that's why I think maybe NX is a toe test or more, dip in and check the waters towards a conversion of Nintendo off of console only, handheld only, to a all in one box that you can dock to a tv or carry with you which the NX does do. It will come down to the openness and versatility of the software/OS/firmware and how Nintendo restricts it or not which could drive people to it or away from it.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I wouldn't say they created that concept so much as aped it from others and made it a bit more svelte. There have been prior smartphone adapters that are similar in execution:Tanooki wrote:Nintendo though appears with NX have mitigated that, they've created a tablet that has a controller or 2 break away parts for 2P gaming on 1 tablet.

And there's nice controller addons that embed the phone, like the popular Logitech one:

And although plenty of games don't include built in controller support, there are apps out there that act as wrappers and mitigate the problem.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I'm aware of those, I'm talking about taking a non-phone (ie: tablet) and making it native. You know how spotty that crap is on android and ios. You basically have morons making up their own format, or you have some generic HID like bluetooth pickup and no one seems to want to make anything a standard. Even then some of them halfass their general part to try and push their own like those trolls who make the Moga controllers. Again they are strap on devices either way, the Nintendo is the first all in one from the design look online if it's not all press made up crap and assumption.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
I am excited to see what the NX does. I would love it if it is a portable that can play all the console titles. If it has Pikmin 4 I will buy it.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
I found out some stuff about it the other day. It is both a console and a handheld, it works either way, but when it is docked for TV play it has parts in the dock. Because of this you can't go all WiiU with it and just pull the plug and power it direct, it has to run from the dock meaning there should be some pack-in controller. Dev kits have been out there, at least in the earliest form for closer to 2 years than 1. They're under pretty much an added lock n' key, anyone working on one or touching them has a Nintendo drafted NDA to stfu or die over it. Other than that the stuff out there as far as physical media, networking, downloads, DENA, and so on pretty much have it covered. A mystery at least from what I got is the detaching controller bit. This has not been like the WiiU, it was not made where people had kits for like a few months (6 or less) before it arrived, but well over a year now. Nintendo hasn't worked on any games with their internal teams other than splatoon and mario maker for years now, they've been diverting resources to this. WiiU is dead, 3DS will ride for awhile as they're planning more, but this IS their new handheld and console in one, no more splitting resources to make games for either or.
