Yeah. I ignored it because it's basically virtual LEGOs. If I want to do LEGOs, I'm going to actually play with LEGOs.
Interestingly enough, though, didn't Minecraft really get rolling more on PC and eventually 360? When did the mobile versions come in?

Re: NX Predictions Thread
From what I've randomly gathered across articles, podcasts, and whatnot over the last few months, I actually think videogames in general are mostly dominated by an older demograph. So it might not just be a handheld thing. It doesn't really seem like kids nowadays are that into gaming in general. Lots of idle phone games or Minecraft's and whatnot, but yeah. Consoles are old tech to kids.
I could be totally wrong though but that's what the situation sounded like.
Since we're on Minecraft, Dragon Quest Builders actually sounds pretty cool and apparently has like dungeons, and story, and somewhat of a direction on things to do haha. Never attempted Minecraft though. These things don't look appealing to me at all.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I believe if you see a kid playing a 3DS today, it's because the parent bought it for them, out of the parent's own childhood nostalgia for Nintendo handhelds. I am a perfect example of this. My daughter did not ask for a DS when I bought her one in 2007. I bought her one because I wanted her to have a Nintendo handheld, so she could enjoy the franchises I loved as a kid.Sarge wrote:How much is parents getting it because it's what they liked, and how much is the kids?
Now it's 2016 and my daughter is 18, and she has zero interest in a 3DS, despite owning a DS, GameCube, and SNES growing up. She'd much rather play mobile games on her iPhone, because not only does it play games, but it lets her do a million other things... and I can't blame her for that. Especially she enjoys the diversity of developers on mobile rather than only what Nintendo approves. Last weekend I told her about Super Mario Run, and she was like, "Well that might be cool, I guess." Not a great sign for her demographic. Now she's just one example, but I don't think she's an isolated case of Nintendo failing to capture her generation (millennials?) in a larger context.
On the flipside, yeah I enjoy my 3DS (and 2DS). But I also get pissed at how many missed opportunities Nintendo has flippantly thrown away with the platform, and in addition I feel like my tastes were not wholly catered to with the 3DS (whereas with DS they were more so), and I hold that against modern Nintendo. Meaning I don't put much stock in the NX catering to my tastes either, and am much less inclined to buy it sooner rather than later.
To counter that comment though, I have played quite a few mobile games that do cater to my more hardcore and esoteric tastes, and it makes me more enthusiastic about that platform. Yes there's a ton of junk on mobile, but if you dig hard enough you will indeed find diamonds. I have more respect for mobile than I used to, absolutely. And I'm more excited to get a better phone than an NX. And when I am saying that, someone who should be Nintendo's most hardcore of hardcore demographic, there is indeed a serious problem.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
This, I think, is the biggest problem the Wii U had. That's also why I made a point to buy just about every third party Wii U game that looks even mildly interesting to me. Legend of Kay? Never heard of it before I saw it in Gamestop, but it looked mildly interesting, so I picked it up. Just Dance? Boring to me unless I'm drunk, but I'll buy it. Darksiders? Lower frame rate and less detailed graphics, but I love the system and "vote with your dollar" or whatever. Support the systems you love has always been my rule. If I'm that concerned about getting an "inferior" version, I'll just double dip and eat ramen for another week (like I did with House of the Dead Overkill by getting it on both Wii and PS3).Sarge wrote:or the Nintendo fanboys actually bothered picking up more games than first-party software, then it would be just fine on that front.
As for Nintendo leaving hardware, I'm hoping you guys just don't know what 1st party means because Nintendo's going "1st party" for Sony would mean that Sony fully owns Nintendo. I think (read: desperately hope) the phrase yall are looking for is "2nd party." Otherwise some of yall need to be nailed to a cross immediately.

Yeah I meant 2nd party there.
Nintendo developing for multiple platforms sounds awful. They kind of do it between their console and handhelds, but the games seem a bit different most of the time. Anyways this is just another reason I hope the NX unifies the two. I doubt we'll ever see another Sony handheld and it's time Nintendo changes a bit to adapt.

Touchscreen controls = No thanks.Exhuminator wrote:To counter that comment though, I have played quite a few mobile games that do cater to my more hardcore and esoteric tastes, and it makes me more enthusiastic about that platform. I absolutely admit that I'm more than a little biased, but I reject the shit out of filthy plebiean mobile gaming. I've got Pokemon Go and Fallout Shelter downloaded because I love those series, but rarely play either, and I'll try anything Nintendo releases, but I'm not very enthusiastic about it.

plenty of mobile games can be played w/o touchscreen.Xeogred wrote:Touchscreen controls = No thanks.
I use this for my phone:

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I agree, it's not completely devoid of quality software... just mostly.
Gamepad support is remarkably spotty on Android, too. And those controller attachments are pretty clunky, I've messed with a Moga Pro and the smaller one and was not impressed.
Elkin, Legend of Kay was a ton of fun on PS2, if you haven't played it and like Zelda-ish games (it's not quite there, but has elements of it), then you'll enjoy it.
