Speaking of reviews scores, Dead Space currently has a higher avg ratio than RE 5 on http://www.gamerankings.com/
If that boring, with repetitive stupid objectives and copy - paste textures gets a higher avg ratio than RE 5, then... well, i don't know what to say.
Note: I already finished RE 5.
anyone picking up resident evil 5 tonight?
Re: anyone picking up resident evil 5 tonight?
The mongering - both positive and negative - for this game has been building for a long time so the polarized reaction doesn't surprise me.
I just love the idea of 2-player co-op in the series. I've been a fan of co-op since Contra on the NES and not enough developers use this in games.

And they had strong points about everything, based on the footage shown. Well not about the racism part. Adam Sessler needs to just drop that argument. Having black people in an African setting in a video game is not fucking racist.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Haha I was watching Xplay last night and saw that. I really wanted to stand up and clap. It's white people who did 90% of the complaining about this setting, and I think that just demonstrates that they aren't comfortable with so many blacks in their video games.

Very true. Even a couple of my friends were asking why there were so many black people in the game and only 3 white people. Even after I explained that it was in freaking Africa, they still had the nerve to say "sooo your point?". I didnt really know what to say to that, so I just left the room.Mozgus wrote:And they had strong points about everything, based on the footage shown. Well not about the racism part. Yeah... maybe.. but really, all he said was "what the fuck, this isn't a gears clone!" which is kind of lame. Personally I'm glad you can't move and shoot like in every other game in the genre, and I don't really care about the exclusion of a dodge button (i mean, the qte's are there to keep you on your toes with changing combination, if it was one button, wouldn't work nearly as well.). From what I've seen in the demo, Sheeva's ai really isn't all that bad, especially in comparison to so many other games, and while the game isn't survival horror anymore, the ammo scrounging and still shooting still do a good job of keeping your adrenaline pumping. Also, he didn't even touch upon his gripes witht he plot, aside from saying "I don't like it.", which really gives me no fucking insight into his criticism. In other words, ballsy score, yes, and i commend them for doing that, but that review kind of sucked.Mozgus wrote:Wow, G4 has balls. 3/5 stars. Fanboy riot in 3,2,1....

Edit:
My favorite review thus far, kotaku's no rating system should be implemented everywhere.

Just be a broken record for the internet, and ask them why they didn't notice RE4 having 400 spanish people, and 4 white people.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Very true. Re: anyone picking up resident evil 5 tonight?
Not the first time xplay has given a lower score to a hyped up game so it's not that big a deal. Those are the same people who regularly bash Final Fantasy. Frankly, I think xplay is a joke with that idiot Sessler and that obnoxious (and not that attractive)Morgan on it. Plus the show's ridiculous attempts at humor. Though in fairness, I'm probably biased. I pretty much hate all of G4 and I think Resident Evil 4 was one of the best games I've ever played. I picked up RE 5 today and I'm digging it so far. Though I only got as far as chapter 3.

I take it you're in the camp that did not like Resident Evil 4?Mozgus wrote:Seen tons of videos, including a lot of spoilers, and it seems like all my expectations have been met. We have a new worst core entry to the series. The series can't be salvaged at this point. It's right on Sonic the Hedgehog's tail. It's like they're actually trying to make each game worse than the last.
Besides that I had just finished the game last night. I did like it but I certainly felt like it wasn't as good as RE4, RE2, REmake etc, etc.
Plus they blatantly lied about the length of the game, dropping some bs saying "It's four to six hours longer than RE4." my ass. RE4 was a 20+ hour game. I finished this one in 10 hours with a friend. It's length resembles the first game's length more than anything. Gah...that's what sucks about all this online play now. People are taking games that are meant to be single player shortening the length of the Single Player Story Mode or dumbing it down and tacking on Multiplayer that doesn't really need to be there.
Now, I'm not gonna lie, I did have fun playing with a friend doing the story but I don't like how they hacked the game's length virtually in half compared to RE4, that's lame. Plus there aren't as many cool extra modes that RE4 had going for it like Separate Ways or Assignment Ada. It's got Mercenaries and it seems like a bit of a larger mode than RE4's, and you can Co-Op that one too but still. Aside from all this, no scare moments at all, none...not even creepy ones. RE4 at least had a very few of these...
Overall my verdict is this game was great and all, Co-Op is fun with a friend, but I just don't like the effect it had on the game's length and structure. I just hope the next game will be solo, or if they can do an RE2 kind of thing with scenarios again, that would be awesome.

Re: anyone picking up resident evil 5 tonight?
At first I thought the claims of RE5 being half the length of RE4 were bullshit. Mostly due to how they were slapping hour marks on it, which can vary greatly based on the player. I kept seeing people flip out at the supposed 10 hour length of RE5, and I couldn't help but notice how I originally beat RE4 in about that time. But now that I'm seeing people finishing 5 and directly comparing the length, I'm starting to believe it.
If its true, Capcom fucked up. I mean, length is never a real factor for me (har har, length). I prefer short, but quality experiences to bloated, dull ones. The problem is, the gamer culture has become obsessed over completion times, as if they directly equate to value, which they DON'T. The solution is not to make all the games longer, but to make customer realize that buying the game at launch for the full $60 is not their only fucking option. If you think its not worth it, then wait until the price drops to the point when it is. Speak with your dollar.
I mean, RE1 is a 3-4 hour game. But I've beaten that game 7-9 times over the years. That's about 28 hours of fun gaming right there. RE4 however, I probably only had 2-3 hours of actual fun with. I just felt like that game lost focus of what was fun about survival horror, and had too much other bullshit tacked on that I had to work my way through.
