Can you do a quick double-attack kind of maneuver, like you could in the others? A short jump, attack before landing and you can follow it up with another quick hit usually. Did anyone else do this a lot?

The game does allow for the animation cancelling; attack backdash cancel attack, jump attack land cancel attack. It's just you need to jump a little higher than in other Castlevania games before your attack comes out.

Super disheartening, but not super surprising. :(

That's actually okay with me. Take all the time you need, IGA, and make it good. The rite of resurrection for Dracula (insert villain name here) must be performed with the utmost sanctity. ;)

When was it originally due out? If this a delay of 6 months? A year?

I think someone said a year. To be honest, March of 2017 seemed a little ambitious.

Mmmm, based on the build I got to try March 2017 did seem very doable. But given that he's bringing in some new people to work on something and that's causing the delay, I'm very curious to see what's going to be added.

I wonder if a stretch reward or something is causing issues. Crowd-funded projects often get delayed or bogged down because of those extras.
