What are you listening to? [VGM Edition]

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

More Taito picks, starting to notice I get some strong Mega Man X vibes sometimes:

Desert Mountain Storm (BGM 1) - Gun & Frontier (F2 System) - Soundtrack - Arcade

09 - BGM 3 - Aqua Jack (Taito Z System) - Soundtrack - Arcade

Elevator Action Returns - Blow Up

08 - Over Drive - Magical Date EX (Taito FX-1A System) - Soundtrack - Arcade

04 - Cosmic Air Way - Darius (Arcade) - Soundtrack - Arcade

Metroid - Kraid's Lair (Analog Synth remake)

:D :D :D :D :D

Wait, this guy did the title theme too and maybe more to come...

"John Carpenter's Metroid", sums it up nicely.

I freaking LOVE this! Thanks for sharing these. The Metroid soundtrack is possibly my favorite on the NES. I have always thought it was the one game that always sounded better on the original hardware than modernized, covered, or remixed because it is pure video game music. This challenges that thought though. It sounds great on these analogue synthesizers!

The highlight of the newest VGM Jukebox episode for me:
Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO (NEC PC-9801).

Weird mouthful, but this entire OST is incredible. I'm not sure what to compare it to, but it constantly has this weird style that crosses between Ecco the Dolphin-isms and Rister with the dense and atmospheric Ocean SNES sound, jazzed up, and maybe with some similarities between the MOD tracker format (Deus Ex, Unreal, etc).

Just... check this out:

Tekken 6 Soundtrack: Mystical Forest

Freaking love this and whatever the heck the style is. Actually reminds me of FFXIII a lot, which I'd argue those games have great soundtracks.

Here's a video of a girl playing the Super Mario Bros theme on a sheng, which is an ancient Chinese pipe instrument. It is a really cool instrument. She even plays the sound effects of going down a pipe and collecting a coin!

Wow, I probably haven't heard Phantasy Star Online music in over a decade until now thanks to VGM Jukebox... nuclear nostalgia blast.

Put 90 hours on PSO I-II OFFLINE. So good. Thanks for the localized sequels Sega.

Check out the difference between the Japanese and American versions of the Legend of Zelda theme:

Zelda no Densetsu (Japanese Version)

The Legend of Zelda (English Version)

The Japanese Famicom version has an extra sound chip (the FDS).
