Speaking of Tangerine Dream, I watched this yesterday:

Firestarter

Yep, TD handled the entire soundtrack.

In the early 1980s, Martin Sheen did a pair of Stephen King movies back to back, The Dead Zone and then Firestarter. Of the two, I prefer Dead Zone, but it's hard for me to see past Christopher Walken's performance. If you haven't seen The Dead Zone, go check it out.

Firestarter, on the other hand...eh, I don't think it's as interesting. There were actually quite a few movies about psychic phenomenon around the late '70s and early '80s, and this one easily gets lost in the shuffle. Comparing this one to the likes of Carrie, Scanners, or Dreamscape, as well as more paranormal-centered pieces like The Entity and Poltergeist, or even the likes of Altered States...Firestarter just seems bland as a result. There are some serious problems with the screenplay: It reveals plot through constant flashbacks in the beginning, it sets up plot points that then never materialize, and in a couple of cases it seems to backtrack over earlier statements. Characters don't develop the way I felt they should, such as George C. Scott(was he a psychic as well? I'm not sure). When we did get to the big finale, some of the special effects choices with dummies actually made me laugh out loud, particularly this moment:

Every time I rewatch this, I'm reminded of the yellow sleeping bag kid in Prophecy. I think that's the hardest I have ever laughed at a horror movie.

Anyway, the method for handling exposition and goofy launching of flaming bodies aside, I do like many of the people in this movie, and I think Drew Barrymore did a great job as the lead considering she was 9 at the time. It's not something I'd recommend first over most of the movies I've already mentioned(Ok, maybe Prophecy...), but if you like the actors involved, it's worth at least seeing once.

I do give it props for having a Colecovision though. That was a nice touch.

Check out Miracle Mile, a very good suspense movie. I first discovered Tangerine Dream on a Laser Disc documentary, Space Archive 5 Greetings From Earth. The shuttle landing with pilot callouts and the mood music really pulls you in. That Laser Disc needs to be put out on DVD or Bluray.

Now that I have a fantasy plan to watch list, I'm curious about two more genres if you guys have any good recs...

- World ending natural disaster movies. lol, I like the apocalyptic thing. I saw Armageddon but don't recall much. I never saw Deep Impact though. Think I remember enjoying The Day After Tomorrow. I've got Independence Day covered, though I guess that's aliens.

- Period / 1800's. The Duellists was awesome, but other than that I think all I can really think of would be some Mel Gibson movies or something, but I'm sure there has to be much better choices. I'm a big sucker for French Revolution stories in particular and love those locations.

Really vague but maybe you guys have some picks?

Disaster/Apocolyptic

1. The Road- If you don't mind post apocalypse it worth checking out. Doesn't really say exactly what ends stuff the average consensus is an asteroid since there is no radiation mentioned, but basically afterwards fires/ash decimated the environment and everything went to shit. There is also a movie called The Day set in the same universe but it's more action focused.

2. 2012 has a pretty shit story, but has some pretty cool effects if your going in for pure disaster porn. San Andreas is in a pretty similar boat just not on a global level.

3. Knowing - Technically it is a world ending natural disaster movie. Although it is pretty crappy as are most of the films starring Nicholas Cage.

Really I can't think of many world ending natural disaster movies aside from a bunch of low budget crap like you would find on scifi :P.

As far as end-of-the-world disaster movies go, I found Spielberg's take on War of the Worlds to be quite disturbing in the expanse of its destruction.

TMNT III ... schwing joke?

Never caught that one before.

And yes, I am rewatching TMNT III. Still love the first two haha. AVGN was so right about how awful the costume downgrade is with this one. Splinter is basically a puppet.

I'll watch the newest two next.

yeah III is weird haha. You're skipping TMNT? And the newest is Out Of The Shadows, so you're skipping the first new one too? C'mon man. Step up your Turtle game. :D

Huh? Nah I said I still love the first two. I rewatched them this week. I even owned some Turtles musical VHS growing up. I don't need any schooling on Turtles.

Unless you mean TMNT (2007). I saw that in theaters and my friends and I dug it. Haven't seen it since then though.

I'll watch both new ones, I'm just more excited for Out of the Shadows.
