I've been itching to play some classic D&D games. Picked up a whole bunch on GOG.com.

You should play Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse, Ack. It's the closest thing the series had to a Zelda.

Baroque (on le PS2)

Played this creepy roguelike-ish dungeon crawler for two hours last night. First time I died on the very first floor fighting floating fish. Second time I made it all the way to floor cu1300 before dying. Thankfully this game lets you save your current floor progress, thereby letting you continue on the most recent floor. No reviews I read said that, they all acted like once you died that was it, start all over again. Thanks shitty mainstream reviewers. (They probably didn't make it past the first floor to even find out.) Anyway I've enjoyed Baroque quite a bit so far. I'm playing it on normal difficulty in first person view, and I find that approach more immersive and decently challenging.

Lejes Rimul is rocking this one solo, he don't need no stinkin' XP stealin' "partner".

So I left Zellis for the cave to Melanam. Made it through the wastes and reached the cave. Clawed my way through the cave and reached a blockade of rocks. Realized I forgot Brantu, so I had to go back to Zellis to get him. Saved in Zellis and will try again later today. At this point I'd say The 7th Saga is above average difficulty for a SNES JRPG. It's no SMT: Nocturne or Etrian Odyssey, but it certainly makes you pay attention. It's nice to play a JRPG that doesn't just let you press A to win (as most do).

On the one hand, it's cool to see how you're tackling the game solo. On the other, it's a shame you won't get to abuse the combat system with two characters. 7th Saga has a very specific manner in which enemies choose who to target, and once you understand it, you can abuse it to limit the number of attacks you'll be taking.

Keep trying to recruit Esuna, you could use the healing with Lejes. I think Valsu is more opposed to joining up with an evil character, so it's hard to recruit him.

You could also try to get Kamil or Olvan, they have some light healing capabilities and bring a little offense to the table. I think Olvan is considered a little better overall given he's got a bit more offense.

You probably don't want Lux or Wilme with Lejes. They have no healing capability.

Well, I do have copious potions to use for healing. Also defending and then using Lejes' HP steal spell works well. This is supposed to be the hardest SNES JRPG right? Might as well do it solo and make it even harder then.

Of the JRPGs that made it to the US, I'd say yes based on what I've played. That said I have yet to get to Paladin's Quest or Inindo.

Yeah, that's its reputation. And honestly, it probably wouldn't even be remembered if it were an unchanged Elnard.

Huh, I looked back at my review a while ago and I didn't even mention that. Whoops. Not that it was a good review in the first place, but I probably should of mentioned that. I'm bad at assuming certain things unfortunately

I didn't know there was a first person view! I didn't really poke around in the options too much so I guess I didn't see it  Pretty cool that's there though, since that's like the Saturn and PS1 versions.

Anyway, I hope you continue to like it :)

I definitely enjoy it. Love the industrial techno music, decrepit factory atmosphere, weird monsters, and crazy ghastly NPCs. I can also appreciate the challenge. It's a fun game so far.

I don't recall being able to start from later floors when I played Baroque. I was playing the Wii version; maybe there were version differences?
