Hit up Ghostbusters since it's been so long, I couldn't remember which was which between it and the second one. But now I know, the marshmellow giant is the first! Rick Moranis really stole the show for me. Awesome stuff, the practical effects hold up well. AVGN's joked about how there's so much smoking and cigarettes in this and it's true. I'll hit up the second one soon.

My Twin Peaks journey has come to an end. It's safe to say I felt season 2 was a pretty big downgrade. Had like 5 romance sub plots and just really dicked around. Windom Earle leveled it back up. But I had heard Fire Walk With Me was weirder Lynch again and it definitely rocked, more in line with most of his movies. A great way to end the journey for sure. Supposedly there's a "Missing Pieces" edition now that adds a lot of cut content, maybe fills in some gaps with a bunch of missing characters. I found it so I'll check it out.

Then for something different, Duellists (1977) which seems to be Ridley Scott's directorial debut. It was definitely awesome, lots of great scenery, simple and effect plot about honor and duels. Maybe it's because I also finished up Twin Peaks and Fire Walk With Me today, but there was a part in this movie about the French's failed attempt to take over Russia, in some snowy landscapes and dark atmosphere that felt a lot like Lynch stuff haha. But yeah this was awesome as it went and had a great conclusion. Overall definitely worth checking out.

I guess I watched the Director's Cut which doesn't have the Tangerine Dream music. I looked that music up on youtube and it seems WAY cooler than what I was hearing. But I don't really feel compelled to rewatch this again. Probably the most extreme case of style over substance I've ever seen. Visually breathtaking, insane really, like Ridley Scott's Alien or Blade Runner, how this is from 1985 is beyond me. But sadly this movie seems to have nothing else going for it. It's a cluster to say the least.

Unicorns in The Duellists, Blade Runner, and Legend. What gives? lol

Been wanting to go through all of Ridley Scott's stuff though, even if they sound insanely diversive with no middle ground perhaps haha.

Any thoughts on these?

1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992)
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
Robin Hood (2010)
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)

I also have not seen these:
The Martian (probably up my alley)
Black Hawk Down (getting to it soon, looks promising)
Thelma Louise
The Counselor
American Gangster
Matchstick Men
Body of Lies
GI Jane (think I maybe saw it once ages ago)
A Good Year
White Squall
Someone to Watch Over Me

I've seen Black Rain haha, had amazing music and some Blade Runner city vibes.

I thought Hannibal was pretty bad after Silence of the Lambs. It felt like a comedy after Silence's subtle brilliance.

Of that list I have seen american gangster. Dam good movie about 1970's harlem drug lord frank lucas. Of course it has denzel in his prime. Good true crime/gangster bioepic. I swarm I listened to the theme song across 110th street over and over after watching that movie (didn't realize how many rap songs sampled it). Never heard it before seeing the movie lol.

It has Russell crowe also which brings me to the movie the nice guys that i watched this weekend. Pretty good comedy, buddy cop film that was better than expected. Ryan gosling was also good and hilarious. Didn't expect much so I was entertained. Guess I'm going to watch kiss kiss bang bang since I guess it's the same kind of movie by the same director.

Christopher Franke, from TD, did the music for Babylon 5 and for the first Tenchi Muyo movie, Tenchi in Love. I really liked that Tenchi film, despite it being rooted in the inferior first TV series instead of the far superior OVA (Ryo Ohki) universe.

Dude, you gotta see The Martian. It's amazing. Basically Apollo 13 on Mars.

It's great well worth a watch. Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. make a surprisingly good pairing  .

The scenes outside of Laura Palmer's house in Fire Walk With Me were filmed a few doors down from where my wife grew up. She was there for the filming.

Now that they are filming new Twin Peaks episodes, when her parents started complaining that some TV show was filming, we knew where to go. We went to the old Laura Palmer house and watched a few scenes get filmed for the upcoming series. I saw David Lynch working from afar and snapped a few photos, but he was pretty reclusive. Kyle McLaughlin stopped by to say hello to us between takes though. It was awesome.

Hey dude, I promised you high production values, good makeup, and Tim Curry playing the villain. I never promised a coherent script.

As for Unicorns... Ridley Scott is a photographer first. He's from the "don't tell them; show them" school of thought. Assume that the Unicorn is a metaphor for something. The traditional Jungian view is that the Unicorn symbolizes male sexuality, “the wild, rampant, masculine, penetrating force of the spiritus mercurialis”. Ultimately, It's up to the viewer to decide what the Unicorn means to them.
