I'm simultaneously derping two RPGs right now...

The 7th Saga
Pison tried to punk me but I smacked him down like the bitch he was. I passed through Bonro and have been chilling at Zellis. I think I need to go back to Bonro and get a map and a sidekick (probably a healer since my demon dude can't heal himself). It's been fun so far.

Evergrace
It's FromSoftware's PS2 launch title, an action-RPG everybody said was trash. I put two hours in it last night and had a good time. What can I say? I'm a weirdo with absurd taste.

The only thing that will take you 30-60 minutes is your attempts on a boss.

This is complex.

There are two different types of Humanity, which the wiki calls 'soft' or 'hard.' Soft Humanity is the little meter at the top in the circle to the left of your HP and stamina. You can increase the soft Humanity you have by consuming a hard Humanity or randomly from enemies in an area before the boss of that area is killed. Once you have soft humanity, you can trade it in at a bonfire to:
1.) Become human in form
2.) Kindle the bonfire after you're in human form

Kindling the bonfire increases the number of Estus Flask uses you get from resting at that bonfire.

Being in Human form effects your participation in multiplayer. If you're human you can be invaded by other players, but you can also summon other players or NPCs to help you with bosses and the like. You will find their summon signs written on the ground outside of boss arenas.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Now that I've told Trillion to go fuck itself with its damn crashes, I'm going to start the first Witcher game tonight. I got the complete edition of The Witcher 3 last week, so I'm going to start making my way through the series.

I need to give Evergrace another go. I think the biggest thing that happened to it is that everyone was expecting a Zelda-killer, and it didn't happen. Expectations can be absolutely brutal to a game for sure.

My own progress: I've gotten a Level 50 Skell in XCX. Woo! Expensive, though. I did finally set up some more probes to get tons of money, I'm pulling in 120K on every return (15 minutes, I think). The Level 50 mech I bought, though, is like 2.8M. So I pretty much spent everything I'd saved, ha!

I think I'm pretty close to making an endgame push. I start thinking I might start running out of quests, but no, they just keep coming! It's actually pretty ridiculous. I'm at the point where I really want to finish it up, but simultaneously kinda don't want it to end. How weird is that? It has definitely gotten better than my first 30 hours with the game, and it might be starting to edge towards Xenoblade territory. I know I'm happy I'm not doing much inventory management, at any rate!

Anyway, good stuff, and I'm glad I went back to it.

So many games were unduly crushed after being dubbed that moniker... Dragon Valor, Dark Cloud, Star Fox Adventures, etc. I'm glad publisher's advertisement boards finally figured it out it's a bad idea to claim such a thing.

EverGrace really doesn't remind me of Zelda at all. There's some superficial similarities, but not more than you'd find in any other game of this genre. If anything I think EverGrace shares more similarities with Threads of Fate rather than Zelda.

Making slow progress in FDS Zelda II. In the Island Palace right now.

I've developed some strategies over my last two playthroughs (GBA and NES). The only part of the game that feels truly difficult to be now is the final dungeon and the stretch of caves that lead to it.

That said, one of my level-grinding strategies involves repeatedly defeating the red darknut that resides outside the Island Palace. If I leave and reenter he respawns. Super easy XP.

However, this is what happens in the FDS version of the game.......

rrrrrrrrrrrrr
whirrrrrr
cruuunnnnnnnn
crrrrrrrrr
eeeeooooonnnnnnnnnn
bbbbzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah, a just-long-enough-to-be-annoying load time every time a town or dungeon is entered or exited. That's okay though, my levels are pretty high at the present and I probably don't need to power-level anyway because I RULE at this game (not really).

Eye of the Beholder

Well, I explored a solid chunk of level 2 last night and made my way through to an elevator which took me to a prison level and a room full of zombies. I'm currently clearing the prison of skeletons, having gone through and wiped out the zombies first.

Ack, Bone, and Exhum are all level 4 now. Ack and Bone have been swapped over to axes, while Exhum has been given a bow to let him pop enemies from the back. Noise meanwhile continues to be useless. I have found a ton of potions but no documentation on what they do. Right now my biggest concern is my lack of healing options since I went with a paladin instead of a cleric, and I will likely continue to have limited food supplies because the spell to create it is a higher level spell for clerics.

This is making me rethink some of my choices for party build. Originally I chose a fighter and paladin to serve as my frontline tanks, with the benefit of the paladin getting some limited access to cleric spells, weaker turning, and lay on hands. This way I could keep my weaker thief in the back along with my mage...but unfortunately some of the cleric spells are pretty necessary for building a self-sustaining party, particularly higher level healing spells, Create Food and Water, and Raise Dead(though ideally I would never have to use that since it has negatives). If I changed things up, I'd consider a fighter and fighter/thief combo for the frontline while a cleric and mage sat in the back.

Oh well, that's my fault. I'll just have to soldier on instead and hope I can get access to a cleric NPC or something.

This is the SNES version right? Does it have an auto-map? Are there dedicated keys, or do you have to use a pseudo-mouse cursor (like the SNES version of Dungeon Master)?
