Favorite Open World worlds?
Re: Favorite Open World worlds?
One that I loved back when I was rocking the PS2 hard in highschool was Gun still need to pick up a 360 copy and run through it again. World was somewhat small compared to GTA and etc. but I found it had just the right density to keep things interesting. Sure Red Dead Redemption came on later and improved the concept, but I still think Gun had better pacing thanks to it's more condensed map.

Yeah, I rather like the middle ground of games like Deus Ex or Crysis. There is a plot structure and a set of goals, you basically get funneled through the same game areas each playthrough, but there are many options as to how you will get through it all.

Yeah Crysis is kind of on the line. I'd compare that to Borderlands, Dragon Age, etc, that have big "maps" but still not some huge single area. I definitely prefer this style too. Huge maps that you can actually cover 100% of and manage easier, and breaking it up allows them to make more diverse environments usually.J T wrote:Yeah, I rather like the middle ground of games like Deus Ex or Crysis. Forgot to add Far Cry 2 that had a great open world and plot I'll admit kinda got side tracked chasing down those trucks (forget for what purpose) and well mainly making MP levels but it was very good for an open world FPS, heard the ending was disappointing. Still from what I played it was exciting!
I was also praising MGSVPP for its accessibility and ease to new players, however with my previous picks I rather spend more time with them before I make a final decision on wanting to continue it or not.

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Steelport in Saints Row 3. It had many different neighborhoods that were controlled by the various gangs of the city, as well as being able to get around with cars, trucks, boats, planes, helicopters, tanks, and many other vehicles. I just really enjoyed this game, and having this music on all the time was nice.

Two Words, Ultima VII - A world that felt truly alive and allowed players to act freely and interact with objects and environments in strange and unusual ways.
A bunch of other words, Myst Online: URU Live - There is no video game world with the depth and history quite like the Myst series. Don't understand why? Come talk to me.
I second Morrowind as it is an alien world filled with mystery and a culture far different than the typical fantasy fare.

One pretty cool open world is the one featured in Fuel I used to spend hours riding a motorcycle around in that game while listening to Last.fm on the computer. Being post apocalyptic the road is for the most part really empty so it's a great game to drive around in if you just want to chill and think.
The Crew on current gen and PC also has a pretty sweet map although it's a lot busier with traffic, buildings, and the occasional other player
. It's basically a miniaturized U.S. map that is completely open. It is so large that it takes one and a half to two hours to drive from coast to coast when going 100+mph the majority of the way

I'll agree with this one. I loved driving aimlessly for hours at a time.Fragems wrote: The Crew on current gen and PC also has a pretty sweet map although it's a lot busier with traffic, buildings, and the occasional other player.
