That's the truth, Nintendo only is out for themselves and they're very careful and calculating when making games as they can play to any of the systems strengths and even its weaknesses as a strength too because they like sneaks hide some tech info about the systems to keep an edge up to much third party annoyance.

Look I'll say this about the Genesis controller, the only reason I like it less is because not the amount of buttons on either, it's where they are. As a controller they don't work, that six button setup is just like an arcade machine layout. Problem is trying to get a thumb across all 3 buttons for combos or what not just isn't happening, but as a joystick it's fan f'n tastic. The Sega layout works an arcade design not a home console design for me at least.

Now anyway here's something fun. I don't think I ever showed this off here before, only place was another site that's dead to me now. I guess it kind of tips the favor of my indecisiveness of do I like the NES or the SNES a wee bit more. I loved this thing as a kid, always wanted it, always unobtainable, favorite of this type of stuff before, then and ever since really around the character.

It hangs, it's double sided, both sides are clean and no cracks. I've had this I'm thinking 5-6 years now, not letting go of it any time soon.

Of course though it's not as bad as the Saturn model 1 controller. That thing is just...beefy.
Ack you want beefy? Let me get the "DUKE"
I busted that out again a few months ago and literally laughed out loud. It was more monstrous than I even remembered.

I actually liked it though and got pretty good with it haha.

I like the third one best, although I'm in the minority.

I like my platformers with a great big dollop of gimmickry on top personally. I don't see why people criticise DKC3 for this and and then praise Super Mario 3D World for all of it's 'creativity'.

DKC3 is a fun game because there's always something new to deal with. The music is great, despite what people say, although I do think the series very best tracks are in 1 and 2. However, lots of 2's soundtrack is quite dull I find, whereas 3 has a soundtrack that generally feels fun. Treetop Tumble has a great theme too, which is criminally forgotten when discussing DKC music. I'd also argue that DKC's music feels more 'Donkey Kong' than 2. It returns the the percussion heavy nature of DKC 1, which I liked a lot.

Also, DKC2 had it's fair share of gimmicky levels. Lava Lagoon, Red-Hot ride, Target Terror, Gusty Glade, Windy Well, Castle Crush, Toxic Tower, Jungle Jinx, and the infamous Animal Antics (there might be more). I'm not sure why DKC3 gets a bad rap for having gimmicky levels when DKC2 had them as well. Perhaps because those levels in 3 pop more?

I like how dark DKC2 is and it feels like a natural extension of the first game, the second half of that same journey if you will. With it the difficulty increased quite a bit which was nice. But the entire game is utterly bleak. I think the first game has a more mysterious atmosphere to it, the best music, and coolest variety in levels. Plus you get to play as DK himself. It's much easier than the sequels and the bosses aren't very interesting at all, but it's always been my favorite.

DKC3 rocks, but it does get a little crazy with the collectibles, and the first two worlds have always been pretty boring to me so it's a slow starter.

I'm not trying to make this a sad thread but I want to share a story. This made me think of my older brother rich who died yesterday. I am hurt and in sorrow but I want to share this story to my fellow gamers.
I actually remember the first time I played street fighter 2.
My brother rich and his roommate Steve got the snes and we played street fighter 2 till dawn. I beat rich and he punched me lol. It hurt but that's how brothers are well for my case.
I also remember the time they rented wwf royal rumble and I loved it. We played it and the rumble and rich let me sleep over so j can play it all night. I was Bret hart and I finally beat the rumble.
I miss you rich and love you. This is my hobby and I know you loved video games as well as I do and I will never forget the times we played Nintendo and sega and the n64. Thank you for everything rich. Now some of your memories is on my favorite site and I have good friends here.

DKC2 does have its gimmick levels but most of the ones you listed are revisited in later levels, with a few exceptions. Meanwhile in DKC3 you've got Riverside Race, Bazza's Blockade, Fish Food Frenzy, Ripsaw Rage, Low G Labyrinth, Lightning Lookout, and Poisonous Pipeline which have gimmicks you never see again, amongst others. Most of the boss battles feature a one off gimmick as well.

That's a great memory, and thanks for sharing it with us. Sorry for your loss, but always keep memories like this alive, and a piece of your brother will remain alive in you as well.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I found DKC2 to be the worst of the set, f those stupid coin requirements to proceed. Sure it lacked DK and Diddy, but the stage design and general look of the game was an improvement to me. I really wish I still had it.
