Dungeon crawlers...

Post by MrEco »

I've already played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, Champions of Norrath, Champions: Return to Arms and The Bards Tale. I can't find any other really good dungeon crawl type RPG's and frankly it's very annoying. Are there any that I'm missing? Also, although not essential, multi-player options would be greatly appreciated.

Note: All game suggestions must be for the PS2, Gamecube, Wii, or Nintendo DS video game consoles.

X-men legends 1 and 2 were both really good.

Atlus is going to get one soon it's called The Dark Spire for the ds it's coming out 4/14/09 it looks good.
it has a classic mode witch is all wire frame and the sound is crap, just the way I like it.
Then there is a modern mode witch is just normal, you can switch want between the two at anytime.

I hate admitting it, but I like Darkstone for PS1. It truly is a piece of crap, but addicting nonetheless.

Now your talking my language.

- Gauntlet Dark Legacy - hack and slash dungeon crawl (PS2/Gamecube)
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - far and beyond the best dungeon crawl, hell best RPG of last gen. The only downside is that for multiplayer each player needs a GBA or a Cube with Gameboyplayer (Gamecube)
- FFCC Rings of Fate - Single player is good, story soso, multiplayer is awesome up to about level 40 (DS)
- FFCC Echos of Time - coming soon (Wii/DS with cross platform online play)
- Baroque - Wii/PS2 port of a unique Saturn title (Wii/PS2)
- Dokapon Kingdom - Ok its not a dungeon crawl, but its a helluva lot of fun with folk who enjoy them (PS2/Wii)

More when I get a chance

If The Dark Spire interests you then you should also look into Etrian Odyssey and it's sequel. Both are fantastic dungeon crawlers that use the touch screen for drawing your own map.

Why no PC games? You need to get on the PC and play the two Ultima Underworld games and the later games in the Wizardry series. Search around some abandonware sites and get DOSbox and you're good to go. If you don't mind not having very modern graphics, they are some amazing games. There's a whole slew of great dungeon crawlers on the PC, much more so than on consoles.

I don't have a very powerful computer when it comes to gaming. At all.

How about Shining in the Darkness? One of my cherished memories playing games growing up.

I haven't gotten into Shining the Holy Ark yet, but it's the game that got me interested in the Saturn and started me modding consoles.
